Does Islam teach that it is the one and only true religion??

I have asked a couple of questions related to this topic today, and I have received answers from various Muslims; some say that Islam is NOT the one and only true religion, and others say that it IS. Naturally, I'm confused. For proof, click on the following two links:

I am trying to discover which religions claim to be the one true faith. So far it has been a challenge for me to determine if Islam falls into this category.

If you feel that Islam is NOT the one and only true religion, please explain why. If you feel that Islam IS the only true religion, please explain how someone like me can know if it is true.

**THIS QUESTION IS FOR MUSLIMS ONLY. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY IF YOUR INTENTION IS TO MOCK ISLAM.**

Yes, Islam teaches that it is the one and only true religion!

The reason you are confused is because you don't know who is answering your question!! Obviously a non-muslim could answer and say the opposite to what i just said! : )

The Holy Qur'an is explicit in this regard, as Allah has stated.

"Truly, the Religion in the sight of Allah is Islam." (3:19)

In another verse of the Holy Qur'an, Allah has stated:

"And whosoever desires a religion -other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who are lost." (3:85)

In addition, Islam is the only Religion prevailing over all other religions, Allah (SWT) has stated in the Holy Qur'an:

"And to thee We have sent the Book in truth, (This Qur'an) confirming the scripture that came before it, and a witness over it..." (5:48)

Muhammad, the Prophet of Allah (Peace and blessing of Allah be upon him), said:

"Islam is based on five pillars: testifying that there is no god worthy to be worshipped but Allah, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah and His servant; performing the prayer; paying the Zakat (obligatory charity); fasting the month of Ramadan; and performing Hajj."

Allah has stated in the Holy Qur'an:

"... whoever disbelieves in false deities and believes in Allah, hath grasped the most trustworthy handhold, that will never break..." (2:256)

As muslims, we believe that all the Prophets from Adam to Muhammad (pbuh) were muslims and preached Islam! "Islam" means "submission to the will of God". The reasons many messengers were sent to mankind was to guide the people back to the truth after they had deviated.

Muhammad (pbuh) was the final messenger of God to whom the Quran was revealed via the Angel Gabriel. As the Quran remains exactly the same today, word for word, as when it was revealed over 1400 years ago, there is no need for further revelation.

The truth is found through studying the Quran and deciding whether it is from God or not. Bear in mind that Muhammad (pbuh) was illiterate never wrote a book in his life! The literary style of the Quran in itself is proof that it is not written by man!

I would suggest to read a translation of the Quran and decide for yourself the truth of Islam.

"There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever disbelieves in false deities and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. " (Quran 2:256)

from an Islamic viewpoint Islam is the perfect religion, but not the only religion:

"Those who believe (in the Qur'an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians,- any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. "

-Holy Quran verse 2:62

the belief is that when the Prophet(saw) brought Islam..... religion was then made perfect.

I am a Muslim and for me these are all valid truths but i know you are doing research so i present them in an objective form. i hope this helps

Muslim believe all prophets from the first man (Adam) to last Prophet Mohammed to be following Islam. Islam means in arabic "to submit", and there is no doubt that all prophets did submit to God, so they are all Muslims(Muslim means one has submitted). From this point of view Islam is the only religion.

Though many prophets were sent to nations all over the world throughout history for guiding mankind, people differed or deviated from the message of their prophets by the passage of time. Some people turned into idolatry, some into worshiping prophets and saints, some into denying God etc etc. So God send prophets again and again until prophet Muhammed, who is considered by Muslims to be last prophet and who has delivered the Holy Quran, which God has guaranteed to protect from corruption, so his message will remain till end of World. So what about people who follows other prophets, whether they are actually following their prophet or those who have deviated from the right path. Muslims acknowledge that there exists other people with different beliefs and thus the exisitance of other religions. Hence the verse in Quran
"You shall have your religion and I shall have my religion. " quran 109: 6.
