Google up Dr. Scott Hahn. He has some awesome books about the meaning of the book of Revelation. It isn't all doom and gloom, and you will probably be very surprised when you read what he has to say about it. All of his writings are highly acclaimed, but one place to start might be with his book called, "Letter and Spirit". Then "The Lamb's Supper" would be a nice one to read after that.

No it is not . people just interpret it that way.it is a condensed version of the whole of the bible from beginning to end.
the KJV version and most others do not have preface to each book in the Bible.
The New Jerusalem Bible does.
The Revelation to John
The bible is summed up in the message of hope and the rich symbolism of this book. It is a vision of rescue from the trials which beset God's people , and a promise of a glorious future. The message is expressed by the means of imagery which draws on the WHOLE OF THE BIBLE.ECT.

Yes I do. With the exception that John saw what was going to happen and tried to interpret it the best that he could. He had no idea what modern things were. A possible interpretation: "And the moon hid her light" This could mean that a Nuclear war broke out causing a major nuclear cloud to cover the Earth. But in no way could have John wrote that. One because he didn't know what it was and two people would be looking for it instead of looking for Christ. So I think all the events are going to happen as John writes.

Revelation is a book of history given in prophetic language. It also includes present issues and a few future prophesies yet to happen. Revelation explains who the beasts are, and if you use the Bible to explain itself, that is finding the meaning of the various symbolism by reading other scriptures in the other books of the Bible, you will be able to understand Revelation.

I don't believe that it's just a book of doom and gloom. It has a happy ending. Eternal paradise, God living on the New Earth with the "redeemed," promises of rewards and reigning with Jesus Christ. etc. For those who are believers, I'd say it's an exciting book. For those who choose the contrary, I say "woe."

If you read it carefully it's not a doom and gloom book at all. If you read the bible carefully you'll note that the earth will never perish, it says that many times. Ec1:4 - "A generation is going, and a generation is coming; but the earth is standing even to time indefinite."

I think that it's like people say, it's written about Nero. I've always thought that Revelation actually sounds a lot like the story of Jesus' life, just from a metaphorical angle.

As in most of the Bible, the book of Revelations is allegorical and not meant to be taken literally. Only hard-core Christians take all of the Bible literally. (((sigh)))
