A therapist would be a lot better than meds!!!!
Meds don't solve problems the just mask them and your brain / body will have side effects on them.
The only way to deal with depression is to find a good therapist who believes in getting to the root of the problem not in drugging people.

It can be a good experience seeing a therapist. You can discuss your symptoms and determine whether you have depression and what type - if it's a chemical imbalance in the brain. I take Welbutrin and Zoloft and Abilify for depression, which was a life long problem before I started on my medication 5 years ago. I haven't been depressed since then. Also, you will need a medical records trail in the event you become disabled due to depression. You would be entitled to Social Security Disability and your medical records are the most important requirement in determining how serious the problem is. Good Luck!...)(

Sometimes depression is from a chemical imbalance in the brain and meds will take care of that type, but other times it is from situations you have experienced in your life that haven't been completely worked through. Go to the therapist... What is the worst thing that happens.. You feel better?

Talk therapy is the FIRST thing you should try. Medication may work wonders, but it is not a first-line treatment for depression, and it shouldn't be. Talking to a therapist may help you to cope with what is triggering your depression, and get you out of it before a medication could ever really work. Try it for a month, and if you aren't improving, then ask your dr for a more aggressive treatment.

A therapist is just another human being, like me, who has spent a lot of time learning how to help others feel better. Depression usually comes from having to hold down feelings of sadness and frustration. If you don't want to see a therapist - really, we're not scarey - then exercise regularly, do whatever brings you joy spiritually, write in a journal, and look at whatever in your life isn't working well and fix it if possible.
Good luck.

Seeing a therapist will not kill you. It will definitely help you a great deal.
You don't see a therapist to affirm that you are sick, but you just see a therapist so he can explain to you why and how you feel the way you do. Understanding yourself is your goal here. Once you begin to know yourself it would be so easy decide and get on to improving your own person.
It all takes courage and confidence to get through this. Don't hesitate and don't ever pay attention to what others think and what you yourself think.
Good luck.

Everybody sees a therapist. At least it feels like it. A therapist doesn't perscribe medicine. Is it a therapist or a psychiatrist? Therapists are okay, but shrinks just give you meds and charge you up the a@@.

are you suffering? no one 'wants' depression- maybe your doctor is seeing some signs in you that you are depressed or have "issues" you need to work on. Seeing a therapist could be a great help to you- it certainly couldn't hurt. good luck

same in my case, but after awhile the therapist turned out to be like a good friend, and its good to have someone to talk to that cannot tell anyone what you say, and they really help by letting you see things in a different light. good luck

When my doc told me to se a therapist, I didnt want to go either. So, instead of thinking of them as a therapist, I though of them as a person I could scream and rant at who wouldn't judge me.
Trust me, some things are way better than medication.
