I feel your pain, my cat is a young adult and she is a BLOB.
Try seeking professional help for kittie. She may develop a over eating problem.

You've already gotten a lot of good, solid answers to your question. Hyperthyroidism can cause a cat to be hungry most of the time, but the cat will usually lose weight no matter how much it eats unless it's being treated for the condition. Worms can also be a problem, but ultimately they cause the cat lose weight and have an unthrifty appearance. You might want to have your vet run a blood panel on your kitty and have her checked for worms. This way you'll know her hunger isn't the result of some kind of physical problem. If your kitty has always had a big appetite, and you've always given in to the meows by providing food treats, you've basically got a bully on your hands - she's got you wrapped around her tail! You might try limiting the amount of food you give her at feeding time and give her the balance of each meal as treats. At least that way she won't get too fat. Good luck ^..^

Take a can of soft cat food and some warm water and blend it to a puree (not too runny) Fill a 3ml syringe of the puree blended cat food. To the side and back of the cats mouth and throat slowly begin to feed the kitten with the syringe. (Basically you are force feeding because the kitten is too weak or unable to feed itself) You should be doing this every few hours and watch that he starts using the bathroom regularly. His bowels may start out runny before he gets better. Be sure to keep him warm and comfortable he could have or get pneumonia. It sounds like the little one might have a cold as well that is something you need a vet for to prescribe antibiotics for but as for the eye cold you can do this yourself. Good you have cleaned the mucus away with a warm cloth. You need to apply neomycin an eye ointment or neosporin ointment works as well apply the ointment to the eyes once or twice daily until the mucus clears up. Good luck with your little one and let us know how all of you are doing!!!

You can look into a higher quality food with wholesome protein and not a lot of corn. All the grocery store foods use by-product meat (heads, feet, entrails, feathers of chickens mostly).

Natural Balance, Eagles Pack, Solid Gold Platimum, Nature's Variety, CA Natural all have human-grade meat protein and use brown rice, millet, etc as fillers which are more nutritious for your cat.

If you make this switch your cat will seem to want a lot of food for a while as she makes up for "lost" time on a poorer diet. Eventually she will relax a little more about food as she will feel better, look better and be generally healthier than she was on her former diet. Give her some "snacks" of the good protein you eat too -- nice chicken, pieces of your hamburger, lamb, steak etc.

I do say "snacks" advisedly as she needs the taurine that is in the cat food which she cannot get from any cooked meat you eat. You can make taurine in your body from your food, she can't.

Click on my name at the icon for a "recipe" for switching dry foods. It has to be done gradually.

Distract her!! play with her, pet her, let her outside for a little bit.

I usually do that and that curbs my cat's appetite... I made the mistake of giving in today to his meows, and guess what? He threw up a little latter. I don't think they have the self control to wait to see if they are still hungry before they start demanding their next serving. If you think that she's looking too skinny maybe you should have her checked out by a vet, though.

Buy cat food that is made out of meat instead of corn. I have a cat with the same problem and she's a tubbo. I went to a feed store and talked to someone there that told me that trick.. Don't buy the cat food in the regular store. They're not as good for your cat anyway....Look for a cat food with less fat content too.

My cat did that too, keep eating can food. my vet told me to get grain food, the brand is Royal Canin. I give my cat half of her regular can food and she starts eating both can food and grain altogether in no time. she doesn't meow as much because the grain takes longer to digest and therefore she doesn't litter as often. But she also eats enough can food that gives moisturizer and she still drinks water regularly so no problem in urinating - plus less stool and can keep her weight stabil.

your cat may have worms . it is a good idea to de-worm your pet at least annually. worms can be the cause of an increased appetite because the worms are feeding off of the nutrition in your animal's digestive tract. some animals that live indoors simply eat for recreation, if this seems to be the case you should feed your animal smaller amounts more often in the day.

Older cats are known to get hyper-thyroidism. Extra hunger is a symptom. I suggest you take kitty to the vet to have that checked.

It wants attention ... you dont have to feed her everytime .. if you feel like she is really hungery then instead of a bowl full of cat food why not give her a spoonful ... if she eats dry well give her a few peices that way your both happy
