I honestly just don't have enough in me to be bothered.

When an oak tree grows, the first thing destroyed is the acorn. The Christian tree is huge and old. Christians are not Christ and they should not claim to be. What they may claim is to be followers. How much they are like the leader is uncertain, and not required knowledge. This has created from Christ a cultural icon. How much this icon has to do with righteousness is a question. Decent behavior and reserving judgment on others has a lot to do with righteousness.

I "choiced" not to because the entire book is a long drawn out fairy tale. Men who walk on water, miracles, dragons, giants... The Brothers Grimm wrote more entertaining stories, with way less sex and violence. There is no proof of "God" that can be evinced in any scientific way. I want proof, and the only proof christians can offer is the bible, which, in and of itself, cannot be used as hard proof. I've read the entire thing, several times, and each time I find something else ludicrous in it. Thus - I choose not to believe in sectarian claptrap.

I am a very religious person and I am happy with my religion and my deities. I have no reason to want to denounce my deities and the things that I have believed in since I was a child (I'm in my forties now). This is what I've always believed and I'm very happy. Why would any religious person who is happy with their religion and their deity/ies want to denounce their deity/ies and their beliefs? Would you? I wouldn't consider it. It isn't that I reject other religions as much as the fact that I embrace my own. As a polytheist, monotheist belief systems have never been an option for me. I simply cannot comprehend the concept of there being only one deity in the universe and my personal spiritual experiences support my beliefs. However, I respect all those whose beliefs are different from mine and I encourage them to follow what is right for them.

I am not a follower. That may sound glib, but honestly I like to go my own way - I kind of need to go my own way. I am homeschooling my kids, we go to chiropractors and herbalists instead of MDs, and I almost always disagree with pop culture (if everyone loves the movie, I generally don't care for it).
Maybe for me it has something to do with the fact that I am a twin and so there is a built in urge to stand apart - though I do like to learn from others to avoid similar pitfalls. Maybe that is why I have taken bit of schools of thought and put it together into my own stuff - so to speak.
Interesting question.
Peace!

Because that's how cults start. One guy with a "vision", then a bunch of followers...nothing good ever comes out of it. Also because he is not and never was the son of "god". He was an oridnary man who was dellusional but felt very strongly in peace and understanding. For that he has my respect, but not my devotion.

Because I failed to see how any of the stories attributed to him are true, and when I studied the old testament, I realized that he violated a number of the prophecies regarding the messiah.

I don't see the purpose of worship. Maybe I am going to Hell, but I still don't want to be a servant of God or myself. Life was forced upon me, and I'll be damned if I have to live for satisfaction.

I think a lot of people want visual proof that He actually exists, and most churches these days don't offer any.
