Male dominated societies set up religion and record "history". No way were they going to make God female. There are plenty of societies, to this day, where women are treated like property. Deeply religious societies. That God would have a gender makes no sense and irrelevant. If God created the university he/she would transcend gender. Besides, if you look at the animal kingdom females rule.

Most religions if not all believ GOD is male, because acording to most holy textx, GOD identifies itself with being male.. and I believe it is mainly because it represents a sense of security; judegement; wrath and the ability to carry out what is said will be done.
The Bible being what it is, and representing what it does, and presnting the world as being dangerous, lost, and full of sin, sinners and wickedness.. demonstrates the masculine side of GOD because honestly, if you were in the middle of a war, running from soliders with AKs, missile launchers and all... which would you prefer, a man/soldier that claims he can do anything and has proof that whatever he says he will do he has the ability to do so and willperform it? Or, a woman full of love, crying there with you saying, the world is os dangerous.. what shall we do?... do the math, try to understand the contexts of messages written... I believe thats why it is written allover the bible, ye who have ears and eyes, can not see nor understand... most people dont understand the Bible, and purposely find fault in it, because deep down inseide, consciously or even at an unconscious level, they refuse the be accountable to anyone or anything!

This stems from ancient perceptions of the creator as male based on fundamental gender roles. The more aggressive creative male is commonly seen as a god while the fruitful earth is seen as female. It is also more comfortable for many to recognize this, as we are humans just as the ancients were. In reality, God is the prototype of both males and females, a universal force who is indeed a person though.

Because it's a way to enforce a patriarchal society through religion. Take out the Goddess and women aren't important...like they're an afterthought. It's the main reason why we have so many problems in the world. We've forgotten the Goddess and taken advantage of her.

For Christianity it is because the society prior to Christ was male dominated. They refered to anyone in an authority position as male. Only men held positions of authority.
Then came the Messiah Jesus Christ. He was born of a woman, that had been impregnated by the Holy Spirit.... Mary his mother.... God his father. Jesus refered to God as Father.....
In fact friend... i dont believe God has a gender(even though I myself refer to him as Heavenly Father because it is comforting to see him in that manner) nor the angels... the purpose for gender is procreation. And no before anyone makes the comment in their post... i do not believe that God had "sex" with Mary.... He is the creator... with a word he created all things... creating a child in marys womb would require no more effort than him saying it is there.
God bless you

We call him Father. Males have always been the head of the family and we are all of God’s family. I believe he has a wife and she is our heavenly Mother and God cherishes her so much that she is not generally known about so we would not take her name in vain and be ugly towards her as some are to him.§

I know that in the Bible God is always referred to as "He" and "Father," to show that He is a male. In the Koran I'm pretty sure that Allah is referred to as a male, but I have not read the entire thing. Jews also believe that God is "Yahweh" and "Lord Father."

God is the Father, i know of no woman who wants to be a Father. Also every mention in the Bible about a spiritual being (Angels), it is in the male form.
