Mary is the most perfect example after Christ of holiness and devotion. Practically, she could not have saved Him, there were Roman guards, but also she knew her Son was the Lord and had an eternal purpose. Her suffering was immense, and is an example to us of her love.

You are mistaken. It was Mary who was given by her mother before her birth for service of Allah (The God). mary's mother also asked the God for protection of the progeny of the child who was still in he womb. The God accepted. When abby girl was born se ws shocked as she thought it would be a male child whoi could easily and whole full time serve the God as woman when get mary may have to serve her husband and when have a baby may to serve her child. But of coruse the God is capable of doing any thing. Mary used to get food from God at her place of worhip. SHe was made pregnant without a touch of human being so she did not have to serve husband and yet kept her chastity. He r child Jesus (Issa) was so cute and so intelliget and so wise that he spoke like grown man on his birth so again Mary did not have to mcuh time on her. The last part of the prayer ie..related to progeny will be fulfilled whne Jesus will return and mary and have children adn the die a normal death.
Jesus was saved from the cross and the peron who was crucifierd was not Jesus for sure. The way the person was acting on his journy and on cross was not befitting with Jesus and this the reason Jesus was spotted after the incidence. Many good pople are tortured in this life icnulding those in ABu Gharib Jail and Guantanmo Bay by evil poeople . But that does not make evil people great or those tortures bad!

Mary did not give up Jesus. He was born so He could die for us. He was beat and tortured by man. He represented all that men hate. Love, honesty, and goodness.
A crack whore gives up her child (or she should).
An ignorant, uncaring mother has her child taken from her for it's well being.
An innocent girl in the midst of unfortunate circumstances gives up her child (because she loves him).
Mary was given a child by God. Jesus was not hers to loose. He was her son, but a son with a destiny.

Please read the Chapter 19 named after Mary, the only woman mentioned in the Holy Quran by name! to understand why she did what she was commanded to do. That's why God (in Arabic called Allah=THE God; Al=THE, Lah=God!) describes her as the holiest woman who lived on the earth ever! And for those who are Christians by belief, please note that Islam is a tolerant, inclusive religion. One example: as above the title of the holiest woman is reserved for the mother of Jesus Christ (one of the Prophets of God endowed with most miracles!), and NOT the mother or wife or daughter of Prophet Mohammed!

I'm sure it was extremely hard for Mary, She knew that Jesus was born in this world for our salvation, She was very submissive and that is why God chose her for this important job.

Probably none of us could have the faith and grace to do that, which is why, of all women from Eve, to the last female, Mary was chosen to be the first christian, ever obedient. (Jesus was not torched)
