Ever since I was a baby I have had a problem with going to the bathroom, at 15 I actually ended up in the hospital because I got so backed up and they said I was very lucky I did not do any damage, I went from a flat tummy to looking like I was 6 months pregnant ... The doctor finally told me a name for it,
ibs(irritable bowel syndrome ) and said I had a balloon bowel and should stay away from iron as much as possible.
Since having my son two years ago I have not had a problem with it but recently stupid me decided to start drinking ice tea which has a lot of iron in it (i know stupid me)....
Well now I have a large and hard stool that I can not get out and have been trying to pass it since last night, I even tried eating loads of junk last night to try and give myself diahrea.
I remember when I was little my mother use to give me some type of oil but I do not know what kind it was. The only oil we have in the house is pure wesson vegetable oil,is that ok to take?

Hi Chrissy
Here are the answers you need for long term, especially the first 3 points.
Causes
IBS can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor diet and nutrition, food allergies, imbalanced levels of hydrochloric acid, impaired immunity, infections, lack of exercise, pharmaceutical drugs, and stress.
Quick Action Plan for IBS
1. Avoid all sugars, refined flour products, and carbohydrates, milk and dairy products, processed foods that contain preservatives and artificial sweeteners, alcohol, hydrogenated and trans-fatty oils, as well as foods that are common allergens.
2. Emphasize organic, fresh vegetables and non-citrus fruits, organic grains, as well as organic, free-range meats and poultry and wild-caught fish.
3. Drink plenty of pure, filtered water throughout the day.
Cleansing and Detoxification therapy such as short fasts, elimination diets, and colonics.
4. Enteric-coated peppermint oil and aloe vera juice.
5. Soothing baths two to five nights a week, as well as alternating hot and cold water packs placed over the abdomen.
6. Use Probiotics and soil-based organisms.
7. Therapeutic juices include wheatgrass juice; cabbage, papaya, and carrot juice.
8. Stress reduction techniques, such as biofeedback, hypnosis, and meditation.
9. If you are a smoker, stop and refrain from taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
10. Examine the possibility of withheld emotions as the cause of your symptoms and get support through emotional and physical expression, especially movement therapies such as NIA, Qi gong, Yoga or Total Integration Therapy to name a few options.
Best of health to you.
Cheers

Mineral or castor oil is what your mother gave you. If you refuse to go to the doctor you can make a cocktail. I used to give it to some of my patients. Mix milk of mag and prune juice 4 oz of each. Prune juice actully has iron also so you may not want to try that. Or, lots of apple juice or chocolate milk. You can also do what I sometimes had to do, some people think it's gross but it's worth it if it helps. Get rubber gloves, put liquid soap on your forefinger and insert to clear however much of the impaction you can. Then use a Fleets enema, it works instantly. Hope you feel better.

Go to your local drug store and get a stool softner. It will be located with the ex-lax, etc. Or you could take exlax and a stool softner together just to make sure you are getting everything going. Everyday you can take 2-3 Aloe Vera Gel tabs that you can get at the health food store. These are a natural way to keep your insides coated and everything moving along so you stay regular.

Go to the drugstore and buy some Philips laxative pills or Senacot. It will work overnight. Then add fiber to your diet and drink 8 glasses of water every day.
Your mother gave you mineral oil but that is not the healthiest way to solve the problem.

You need a good colon cleansing. Prune juice usually works for me but if you will get on fiber like Metamucil you will pass soft stuff without the runs. and if that dont help you should get your Colon checked by a Dr. you might have plops. I'm sorry about the spelling.... That's what a Dr. Told me..Good luck and I hope every thing comes out alright.

ice tea has iron??? i doubt that, eat lots of fiber, prunes, dried apricots and the fiber tablets and fiber that you mix in your drinks. cod liver oil most likely but i dont know how effective it is, you need to get on a decent diet and keep it there. lots of veggies, raw if possible.
