Here's the thing~ I have, for a very long time, had unusual and problematic sleeping habbits, mostly in maintaining a normal circadean rhythm. I often slept during the day, was awake all night, and never went to bed at the same time. For about the past month I have done much better, so much that I have seemed almost "normal" in my sleeping.
But the past week it has kinda turned around. Wednesday night I felt very strangely and couldn't sleep until well after the sun came up. I have tried to go to bed at reasonable times after that, and have set my alarm for 9am, but I have been consistantly sleeping until well after noon. I've been feeling like a brick in the mornings, and pulling myself out of bed has felt like pulling a bus up a steep hill. I'm usually extremely groggy, and it usually takes me hours before it totally goes away.
I would really like to find a solution to this, peferably one that doesnt involve expensive medical treatment. Blessings and thanks to all who answer!

Note- Just so no one misunderstands, I'm not depressed or anything. I was, but that is long behind me, believe me! I very much look forward to each and every day, now more than I have in a long time.

Note- I'm also not a high stress person. I tend to be fairly easy going.
I'm not a big caffine consumer, though I tend to have a soda a day, sometimes less, occasionally more.
And my alarm clock is accross the room, but I can sit up and shut it off without waking up much.

Good luck with that..and be sure to let me know when you find out..I think the computer may be the culprit. ...Bad computer..lol
No seriously..It can be really hard to stick to a routine (on what time to go to bed..and set your alarm to wake up..and actually do it.), but it's the only thing that seems to work. As long as you continue to make yourself go to bed at a certain time..and set your alarm to wake up the next day..you will continue to feel better. (You may need to buy several alarms..just to make sure you do not hit the snooze button too many times).
Your body may be used to sleeping during the day..and being up at night..so it may take a while for you to get used to..and to actually start feeling better when you wake up. Try taking a warm bath just before going to bed..make sure all televisions and computers are turned off..before taking your bath..so you are not distracted to stay awake. This could also give you a little while to clear your mind..and help you relax. What ever you do..don't let yourself..mess up the schedule and your routine..by staying up past the time..you want to go to bed..Give it time..and your body time to adjust...hopefully within a month..you will rest better and wake up feeling better. If you don't after this time..it may be a good idea then, to see a doctor, and see if something else may be going on to prevent you from getting the rest you need at night. Good luck.

1st off all I wonder how much caffenated beverages you consume every day. I suggest you cut it out completely. Then I would try a night time routine eg. long hot bubblebath, reading, or even try to remain active during the day, get involved in some physical activities such as sports, volunteer work, or anything else physical, this will surely drain you by the end of the day. If all else fail ask your Dr. about presription sleep aids.

if you dont see a doctor no one can tell you what is wrong, the best thing is to go to bed at the same time every night and just stay there even if you dont sleep, and set your clock and get up at 9 or whatever even if you feel terrible, eventually you will be worn out enough to sleep when you should and then you will be more able to function when you get up at a decent hour.

first --stop eating or drinking ANYTHING you do that has caffiene. colas, teas (even if decaf), coffee (duh), chocolate. nuts!
second --take some melatonin tablets right before bed. these are safe and natural (check with a doctor to be positive.).
third --this may be depression. Sleeplessness is one of the symptoms. I mean depression caused by a medical condition. There is treatment for it --stuff that helps is regular exercise, daily vitamins: and also a B complex and vitamin C (buy good quality. vitamin quality isn't regulated in the U.S.), and also not eating sugar.
best of luck to you.

Welcome the world we all live in. It is called STRESS!
The only solution is to do daily aerobic exercises.
Such as The Step.
5-15 minutes before you go to bed.
After a while, you will need less sleep, but sleep deeply while asleep.
I get 5 hours sleep a night.

I suffer from insomnia myself. My doctor told me to get up real early in the morning, exercise, and keep busy all day. It only worked for a while but, it might work for you.

get a better alarm clock
put it on the other side of the room
put a fresh jalapeno and a glass of water next to it
When it goes off, drag your @$$ out of bed, eat the jalepeno in one bite and chug the water - it won't help ease the burn, but it will wake you up.
