The only truly effective way I know to prevent a cat from peeing somewhere is to put aluminum foil over it. You can put some foil at the base of the plants. Plastic doesn't work as well; cats will pee on plastic.

Good luck with the eating of the plants.

Your cat is the member of a big club! Unfortunately, some kinds of plants can be deadly to your cat, so you really don't want him/her eating any of them. With my four cats, spraying Bitter Apple (available at most pet stores) on the foliage kept them from chewing on it, as did adding their very own containers of wheat grass. It's not only good for indoor cats but they love the taste of it. To keep my cats from using the soil around my bigger plants as a litter box, I put large smooth rocks on top of the dirt. They couldn't scratch and piddle on the rocks, and they didn't like the feel of it. The water just goes over the rocks and into the soil. Good luck. May your kitties and your plants thrive!

I have a special spray that I bought that doesn't hurt animals or plants and it smells and tastes bad to cats and dogs so they learn to stay away. I used it to keep my cat from scratching the couches and now I don't worry about her. Spraying them and scolding them is something most people don't like to do even though it may work it gives some cats emotional stress.

House brake the cat first, then buy a little grass plant for the cat. Cats eat plants to cut down on fur balls.
You might want to ask your vet too.

A spray bottle. Squirt your cat anytime he goes near the plant.

There are also sprays to repel your cat from certain areas, sold at the pet store. It is not dangerous to children or animals. It will keep your cat away from the areas you don't want him to go.

Hope this helps! good luck!

I agree that using bitter apple spray works. Also, you might want to try placing pine cones on top of the soil in your planters.
