No matter what you do, some litter will still make it inside the house. Try using some type of carpet, mat etc surrounding the box to catch litter. Clean the box daily to prevent the cats from potentially kicking more litter out when they are done using the box. Try different types of litter. Some brands have much smaller/larger grains. Might help.

Yes, litter mats are good - also get a covered box so they can only come out of it where the mat is.
You should try a different litter. It's a bit more expensive, but brands like Feline Pine (awesome) and Yesterday's News makes litter that is in little chunks instead of sand. It won't stick to their paws.

Rugs aren't the answer!! I have a rug under the litter box and one leading to it, a rim around the box and still have litter all over the house! I haven't tried one of the mats yet....but think I will.
Don't know about changing the type of litter - with a cat as spoiled and cranky as mine is - she probably wouldn't like it!!
Good luck!!

I have six cats now -- three have "furry" feet and they track a lot of litter. I do not have carpeted floors, just rugs. I bought one of those electrically charged swivel sweepers that were advertised on TV. I just love it because it is so easy to whip out and get up the excess litter that ends up on the floors. I don't have to drag the vaccum cleaner out of the closet and attach the hose and floor brush. It saves me time and keeps the floors neat.

I use a litter mat and it cuts down on it a lot. I also scoop every day so they don't feel the need to kick it out of the box as much.

It may not stop it completely but i have an old piece of carpet or a small mat would do...at the entrance to the litter tray( mine has a lid) if you have the open kind stand the trays on a old piece of carpet or old towel..cuts the amount of litter stuck to the little 'gems' feet!....>^..^<

I bought one of those rough door mats from wal mart, like the ones that say wipe your paws. that seems to work pretty well with catching the litter, but its still strewn all over the laundry room, but it seems to keep the litter out of the rest of the house.

I've never found a way to prevent it. The only thing I have is a rim around the top of our box which prevents it from being kicked out but whatever comes stuck to them, still comes out.
