I was considering to buy a ford mustang convertable, I am a 20 yr old male. I am aware of the insurance issue. But I am concerned with the fact that if the car was to rollover my head would be crushed, and there seems to be rollover bars in place. But when you get into a collision there is lots of metal flying around, and if your in a convertable Im worried that flying metal is going to come crashing through the cloth cover and I will be finished.

if your wreck is that bad then you have the same issue with the window being cone and shrapnel coming in from where glass used to be. but of course the absence of the metal top will make things more dangerous to begin with. not only will flying metal hurt you but flying pavement will and dirt will too. i dislike convertables for the noise factor when the cloth top is up. i havent ever gotten far enough in a decision to get one to where i had to even consider safety. i dont know how anyone can listen to it for long

The odds of a rollover are slim to none, and the same is true for flying parts. Buy whatever you want. When your number is up, you die, whether it's walking down the street or sitting at the buffet stuffing your face.

Mom's friend died in a convertible due to a roll over, so it might not be the best car if you roll that sucker over.
