How do a cat with the size body shape, coat length, and tail shape of a Ragdoll, but solid black, from head-to-toe (and no blue eyes), and another, nothing like one in *any* way, (who, by the way was the mother), also all-black, except for a tiny dab of a milk "moustache" and regular-length, non-"plumy" short-haired, skinny tail, (and also no blue eyes), end up producing a kitten that looks to an untrained eye in the breed (namely mine) only **more** like one with every day??? Beautiful blue eyes, long, soft hair, more affectionate than any of our other cats (neither of which are either of his parents - my cats are neutered and stay inside) -- long, blue "plumey" tail, blue legs and feet (except a white dot on each of the back feet), blue mask, and coat getting more interspersed with dark every day, practically, and now - about a week before his first birthday, still gaining size, too.
Can someone satisfy my curiosity on how he could come from the two cats above?

I have a cat with Ragdoll characteristics(large and affectionate with Ragdoll markings, blue eyes etc.)His mother was a small, black feral cat who gave birth to five kittens in the basement of my brother's business. He could not catch the mother,so he took the kittens.Besides mine, there is a calico(shorthair),a black and white(longhair with short, cobby Persian like build),a large shorthaired brown tabby w/white markings, and a small, shorthaired white w/orange spots. The first Ragdoll kittens were mutations born to a common alley cat.I can't remember the color of the mother, but it was a common color. All of the kittens were Ragdoll types, and this is how the breed began. It was just a natural mutation. These things happen all the time, and sometimes they can't be explained.

I cannot put together a picture in my head of what you said above, except the parents.after that I'm lost.
but just like humans cats can carry certain things to their off spring. the blue eyes could come from the ragdoll blood line but the dad didn't get them, or the mom carried the other stuff to the kitten. OR maybe that dad isn't a ragdoll at all, or is a ragdoll-mix?
that's why pure breed are called that, they are 100% pure of their breed, you know what you get when they mate

Cats come in an almost infinite variety of colors and markings. What is presented in the subject cat does not tell you about his genetic heritage. Only those folks that breed cats for expression of traits can be fairly certain of the outcome. Some of them have had a surprise or two. Nature finds a way-short answer!

Well, it all has to do with DNA. My face looks like my father's, but I have blond hair and green eyes, while everyone in my extended family has brown hair and blue eyes. Go figure. Also, a female cat can have kittens from many different fathers, so if the mother was purring around with many males, she could have multiple kittens with different daddies.

Just to show you anything can happen in the world of kitty genetics!
We got our Ragdoll from two regular tabbies. There was also a Snowshoe Lynx! Go figure....

that ought to be incest. The domestic dogs could probable have a lot of unusual deformities and that they could in simple terms be tousled. we don't reproduce with our brothers and sisters, and with dogs this is not any different. My chum had a brother and a sister cat and that that they had kittens (her fault) and one kitten grew to become into born with one million/2 a head and it died. dissimilar cats that are inbred finally end up with greater ft too. I used to reproduce betta fish regardless of the shown fact that and it grew to become into considered necessary to have a brother and sister fish for spawning. If the pair wasn't appropriate then the spawn does no longer be of any value. There could be too many color impurities and those varieties of issues. in simple terms concept i could throw that in the time of there. =]
