Is the Old Testament still the word of God...is it still part of Christianity...if it isn't why is it in the Bible? Why include it if you don't believe in it?.....Did God make mistakes in the Old Testament? If Jesus was sent to rectify things and make new laws, why is the Old Testament still included in the Bible. Is not the Bible the word of God? how can you say this is the word of God and this isn't. (and i'm not trying to be rude)

I ask this question not at all to be rude but out of interest as some i've heard some Christains on this site, when referring to quotes from the Old Testament, say "I don't believe in this as i'm a Christian and only follow the New Testament". So i was getting a bit confused.

The Old Testament is filled with wonderful accounts of how God used man to reveal His true nature and is an important part of history. God does not make mistakes. All spiritual writings involve humans, and so sometimes ideas aren't expressed precisely, because spirituality differs from materiality (our language). The New Testament is the proof while the Old contains foundations, and so remains important too. Some who will swear by the literal sense will miss the inspired sense, and this can create some confusion, but it becomes clearer as time moves on.

Not only does the Old Testament tell us a great part of history, but also prophecies fulfilled and yet to be fulfilled. All the prophecies about Jesus' 1rst coming were fulfilled and now just a couple to go.
Peter said(before there was a New Testament)"Study to show yourself approved,so you can give an answer to every man that asks."
Paul says in Titus,"The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration of God to teach us....."

Yes the old testament is still the word of God. Some of the things that they were asked to do like sacrifice animals was done away with by Jesus sacrificing him self. We now have new laws, that take the place of the old ones that were done away with like in the last supper. We now take (bread and wine) to remember his atonement for us. But a lot of the laws remain the same yet. God is the same now as he was then and will never change.

The old Testament is still the word of God. God didn't err when he gave the word unto man, but man erred in the many years since the writings in the old testament. I believe that there were many more things written that we don't have for some reason or other.
The old Testament is a great book about the creation and children of Israel. Many great prophets prophesied of things that are still yet to come. Many talked about the coming of Christ, and many talked about the second coming of Christ.
Also it was said before that Christ didn't come down to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. The Old Testament Prophets tell us of this. They also speak of the effects of the Fall of Adam and why it was necessary for Christ to come down to sanctify us.

The Old Testament is still very much part of Biblical Christianity.
Jesus met two disciples on the road to Emmaus after the resurrection. They did not recognize Him, but He showed them the Old Testament scriptures and showed them all the places in it that pertained to Himself as Messiah.
Finding Jesus in the Old Testament makes a wonderful study topic, and affirms all that we read in the New Testament.

The old testament is the inerrant inspired word of God, just like the new testament.
The only difference between the two is that God intended the laws and practices in the old testament to be temporary ... sort of an incremental way of bringing men to the truth.
The new testament is prefigured in the old.
We need both ... along with the church ... to properly understand the big picture.

Yes the OT is still the Word of God. It is still a part of Christianity. God didnt make mistakes. Proverbs 30:5 says that every word of God is pure. Jesus came to fulfill the law and He did just that through His life, death and resurrection. We are now in a period of grace. We are no longer under the law of works. In other words works is not what saves but faith is what saves. God's grace allows us to receive salvation. The OT is the precursor to the NT. Without the OT the NT would be harder to understand and a lot of it would be missing or it may not exist at all. I hope this helps.

The same God we have now is the same God we had then. All of the Old Testament is relevant and interesting the way it proves truth in the new testament. God never changes.

Think of where we would be if we didn't have the Old Testament. Man ignores the OT and they have already created their own religion (evolution). The OT is the foundation of the New Testament. The entire Bible is about revealing Christ. Don't forget about the prophecies in Daniel that have yet to be fulfilled.
