You are in no way being detrimental to anyone else. Is attempted suicide really a law?

I remember watching the tv news some years ago about a guy speeding in his small two seat-er convertible sports car on a mountain road. A CHP officer was in a high speed pursuit a ways behind him. Suddenly the officer came around a corner and there was the sports car stopped in a turnout. When the officer approached the car the driver was nowhere to be found, but there was a huge bolder in the drivers seat. I mean this bolder was as big as a full grown man and weighed 4 times as much. Lucky for him he wasn't wearing his seat belt. They never did find the guy either. Word to the wise, when wearing your shoulder harness either make sure you have an air bag or that you are not going to fast when you get into a head on collision. Your head weighs a substantial amount and is supported with a small neck (unless you're a linebacker in the NFL) and when you come to a sudden stop it wants to keep going. Snap! Broken neck. 42k deaths last year on the highways, I wonder how many of them were broken necks caused of safety belts.

It is the law, because you CAN hurt someone else when you go flying around the car, or through your windshield. In fact, if your body lands in the wrong place, you could cause a multi-car pile up with many more fatalities. That should all be common sense. Plus, it costs the government tons of money to deal with traffic accidents and fatalities. Another reason, is if you get in an accident with another car, you could needlessly be costing the OTHER driver more money to deal with your medical bills, when you could have been responsible and worn your seat belt to prevent injury.
Wear your seat belt!!! It is NOT just you you could be hurting.

Yes, suicide is a law. But, who's going to stop a suicidal person. As far as seat belts go enforcing people to wear seat belts is absolutely stupid. People should have the right to wear or not wear a seat belt, even if they pay the consequences later for it. I find it as an insult in my individual rights of choosing what I think is best for me.

Good answer, Heidi. Also, by making it a law, parents are forced to be more responsible with their children's lives...

Because the can do what they want. All they have to do is to draft it as legislation, and it becomes law. Too much apathy had allowed the govt. to do this.
