ok, you can't get the old recipe absinthe in the states cause it was made illegal due to the belief of people going crazy after drinking the stuff. you can order it online on different sites and it is legal because you didn't buy it from a seller here in the states. when you order it online it is labeled a 'collectors item". if you go that route i would suggest the brands from czekoslavakia. they are more expensive, but taste way better. be sure to get yourself an dabsinthe spoon and some sugar cubes as well and read how to mix it. i won't go into all of that here. there is a kind of absinthe that is legal to purchase here in the states. the recipe is from france and instead of wormwood for the potency they use some other ingredient. i am sure you can find it there in new orleans, but unless someone made it themselves or got it from another country you are not gonna find any as a tourist.
