Well it depends on what you can explain or not. Even with modern science and technology today we are unable to answers many of the basic questions related to our existence; and when there is no explanation we rely on emeprical results which in many cases may be word of mouth or faith. This is where superstitions come into exitence. As we are able answer these questions with rational expanations we give up the superstition. This is how the society develops. Imagine if we all never understood the concept of natural disaster, I am sure we would have associated earthquakes, tornados and storms with various supersitions. As a matter of fact in many of the backward regions where people do not understand these concepts do the same.

As human beings, the so considered most intelligent specie on earth requires answers to all questions, and what we cannot answer logically are answered by spiritual and personal beliefs.

You know, I believe in some superstitions even though reason and logic defies it. Like I always knock on wood when talking about something I don't want to happen. That brings me a small amount of comfort because I know there's nothing I can actually do to prevent it from happening. Not to offend anyone, because I pray all the time and I believe in it, but that kind of falls on the same lines. Prayers have a 50/50 shot of being answered and as George Carlin said, he had just as much luck praying to Joe Pesci. But people get comfort out of trying to do something about things they know they can't do anything about.

Come on, the thought of "good" and "bad" luck is fun!!!! Superstition is just a silly way of connected yourself to the "unexplainable", you know? To me, it's just something fun to joke around with...kind of like urban legends. Superstitions are just circumstances that are past down through generations that cause us to think about certain things we come across....like a black cat or breaking a mirror. I don't take them seriously, it is just for shits and giggles.........

Well that is really interesting. When for example someone teaches a kid in school evolution and then reinforces the theory over and over again... that person can believe it to be fact. Any thing is possible.

I don't get that either......How come some intelligent people believe in a religion that states that their male members (pardon the pun ), will evolve to become Gods and inhabit their own planet after they die ? Things that make you go HUMMM !

They're fun! Plus I've found a grain of truth in many things along the path so I believe in everything in all of this nothingness; it passes the time.
