ok, well i am currently losing weight . i work out 5-6 days a week, i watch my calorie intake and i make sure i eat all my fruits and veggies and drink 8 glasses of water a day , but i am planning on going on a trip to mexico. On this trip we will be served beans , totillas and eggs with salasa(it's what they eat for breakfast lunch and sometimes dinner). I will probably share a hotel room with a few other girls in a hotel with no gym in not the best place to go walking alone. So more than likeley i wont be able to work out for these ten days . what are some good things i can do to avoid gaining weight on this trip.

i would like to add that this trip is a missionary trip. I will be going to churches , painting houses for those who cannot do it themselves, and doing a childrens outreach ministry so this is not a party kinda trip lol. also the hotel has no hallways not even a lobby lol.

FIrst of all KUDOS on your trip!

Assuming you don't have bad knees, hips or ankles ..
The first thing I would pack is a jumprope - The Absolute best for burning lots of calories and fat, you can do it in doors AND ket a kick but cardio workout in 20 min - It will also keep you in the habit of working out while you are on your trip.

I also would not be too stressed about gaining weight since it sounds as though you will be quite acive and, while it won't necessarily be "cardio" of the fat burning variety, you will still be buring A LOT of extra calories.

As for food - a good basic rule (and no, I am not being a smart a**) is simply, eat when you are hungry, stop when you are full. Americans are overweight not because of WHAT we eat but becuase of HOW MUCH we eat - most people eat out of habit not out of hunger .. That having been said --

1.Always eat the protein food first (eggs or whatever) than just a bit of the heavier food ..... Unless they are drown in butter or whole milk, you won't gain weight if you focus on these (they do have fat but, are a fabulous source of protein to maintain your muscle and the fat will keep you full and give you the energy you will need to paint and stuff)

2. If the beans are refried , AVOID them, they are usually cooked in lard. If they are just the regular variety, 1/2 c is a single serving (about 1/2 the size of your closed fist) they are a fabulous source of fiber, and nutrients so in sane amounts , they will be good for you

3. The small tortillas are generally a single bread serving and, again won't kill you -

4. salsa is fabulous 1/2 c = a veggie serving, so have at

How many calories that you are taking in but most of our females who are on a fat loss program get anywhere from 4 - 6 servings from the carb group per day ( 80 -100 calories per serving)

Also remember to eat slowly

Remember, though, with all of the activity which you will be doing, you will most likely be more hungry than you are normally becuase you will be burning A LOT of extra calories.

There is a link at the bottom for the USRDA food pyramid - it will give you a good idea of what a single serving is and how many you need each day for your weight loss goals (based on different calorie amounts)

This should help you make good decisions in a differnet environment

There are many things to do, but seriously, don't turn down in their food, eat everything you're offered as they are trying to be kind at you, they're offering the best they have so at least try it or you'll offend them.

** Well once that has been clarified... You'll burn a lot of calories by volunteering. Painting, carrying stuff around, playing with kids taht would be an excellent exercise, plus you can do some push ups and the like.

About the food, tortillas, eggs, and beans don't have that many calories and are rich in protein and fiber. You'll be ok with that.

Bring something for mosquitoes if you're travelling to tropical areas and a warm jacket if you're traveling to forest areas.

Before you leave to the volunteer area do buy some water in the city and damp towels, they'll come very handy.

Good luck!
And congrats on the Volunteering Project!

What to do in Mexico? There are a lot of things that Mexicans can do in the US that will not be tolerated in Mexico if you try them.
I would advise you not to:
sneak across their border illegally
fly their flag upside down
demand free health care
demand free education in English
say that you are going to take over their country
break their laws and then yell about discrimination
And don't defecate in any lettuce fields while you are there.

you can still do sit ups and leg lifts and maybe during the day swimming, you know what is really bad so watch what you eat, all the carbs and grease are bad, but you should be able to get grilled chicken and veggies. good luck

I'm going to provide an explanation for how Mexico's visa works: Mex: "You have cash?" You: "Yes, I have a couple of hun..." Mex: "Welcome to Mexico!" Jim mentioned it within the cool researched means, so I'm taking the comedic course.

My advice, truthfully? Just go wild and enjoy yourself. There are more important things in life than worrying about your weight every single second. Do what you wanna do on your vacation and get back on your diet when you get back.
