It is just a good practice for a better health. Fasting once every two weeks may be a good way to keep your body contents in balance. Some religions expalin it with a different meaning - a spiritual meaning; on the whole the basic objective is the same - better health, better individuals and so better people for the society. That is what all religions want.

Fasting isn't about starving yourself or being deprived. You can fast not only from food but from other things like: soft drinks, cigarettes, or basically giving up something you like..and it should be done for however long you wish. I do it sometimes when I really want God's input on a situation or just to because after all, it's the least we can do

Those LDS members that are able to do so because of health reasons, fast on the first Sunday of each month. As another poster said, fasting helps to bring spirituality closer once your mind is off food.

The concept of fasting is as old as the scriptures and beyond. It promotes spirituality, it assists in earnest prayers, and it helps the person to gain control over the desires of the flesh.

I don't see anything wrong with it. As long as it is done within reason. I don't think people who take certain medications should fast.

I have fasted... it's an interesting experience.

Good luck!

fasting..Ive never really tried it..

I bet youd get a better perspective of starving people and youd care more if you were to go a few days without eating.

I learned in catechism that it was a really bad idea for me. I have low blood sugar and passed out. I dont think God expects us to harm ourselves to purify ourselves, do you?

Getting closer to God. Praying to Our Father while we are doing this. Showing God that we are serious about his Word.
