Means energy is transformed into matter and vice versa, means nothing really disappears, everything rearranges. I don't know exactly where the ferret's soul is, but it's enjoying its evolution in the Universe.

I'm an atheist, and I don't believe in souls, human or animals. I'm sorry about your ferret. However, I personally don't believe that anything awaits - when his body ceases to breathe and the brain cells cease to function there is no more function, on any level.

Having said that I like Ambrosia's answer too. It's a nice way to add an element of "spirituality" to this without having to make up silly stories. Every living thing decomposes, and our component molecules will be reused by nature. And no matter, as she says, is ever truly destroyed - even if cremated.

I think you can, if you are inclined, take a great deal of comfort from that thought. I find the beauty of nature and science awe-inspiring myself. I don't need religion to comfort me.

I personally believe companion animals (and maybe all animals) have souls and go somewhere when they die. I've never had a ferret before (they are awfully cute, though). But every cat I've ever known has its own personallity and is capable of great love and affection. I just can't believe their energy wouldn't go anywhere like ours does. I hope when I get to heaven I get to hang out with all the cats I had. It just makes sense that would be part of the joy of heaven.

An 8 year old ferret is exceptionally old yet no longer historic. you've had this time to say solid bye and it's time. Ferrets are so stoic you are able to count upon the actual incontrovertible truth that he's far sicker and in discomfort than he looks. it's going to be an fairly unhappy day yet do it asap for his sake. i'm crying for you in the present day myself.

I have had to put two of my horses to sleep. It was the hardest decision, but i know it was the right one. I do believe they will be waiting for me on the other side. And now when I think of them I see them with no injuries or pains of any kind. It makes me feel better. When you have a pet for 25 years they are part of your family. Good luck and know that you did the right thing.

Animals are in heaven too. I would type down this story i have but i can't seem to find it XD Anyway, the story i have is about a man who dies and is walking on a dirt trail with his dog. He passes a big gate and sees what is supposedly God. But God says that if he wanted to enter heaven, he would have to give up his dog. The man turned the offer down and moved on. Turns out the Devil was the one impersonating God. Those who would give up their life long companions for heaven were sent to hell. God bless, Val

as a human being... i believe that everything has a soul and an afterlife... i think your ferret is in heaven... or whatever is similar to that. BTW... my ferret was really sick too... and i didn't know how sick she was until i got home from work and she was dead in her little hangy bed :( she was so sweet!

sooooo sorry for you loss!! i have 3 ferrets. my oldest one has been sick lately...is getting better on meds now. he has insulinoma, so he prob won't live for another year. i'm gonna miss him like crazy.

i really believe that animals come back to us by way of reincarnation. i swear my dog maggie is a reincarnation of my deceased dog cody. she does everything he used to do...even my landlady and all my friends believe cody has come back as maggie.

humans and animals I believe are all part of this big experience we call life and when we die we all return to the nebulous ether from which our consciousness came and we lose ourselves in it losing our individual identity but sharing in the life experience of everybody else and becoming whole once again.

"Conversations with God" Neale Donald Walsch excellent book I highly recommend it
