Hope this article helps! Don't let them force you to miss out on something you really want, you'll already be missing out on so much. Good luck and hopefully you will find support from others around you, perhaps a teacher or other students.

No they have no legal right to do that. Seriously. Tell them that is against the law and you will call NOW (the national organization of Women) and/or the state's assistant district attorneys office if they try to pursue this illegal and outrageous claim.
Keep coming to school no matter what they say. If they try to make you leave, call the police. If you are under 18 you have the legal right and under law you must attend school until age 18. It is none of their business that you are pregnant. Tell them it violates HIPPA, a federal privacy act for them to even question you about being pregnant. They do not have the right to know you are pregnant nor the right to question you about your pregnancy or any other health issues.
Just tell them everything I said and dont be afraid to pick up the phone and call your local chapter of NOW. (look it up online). Also you can access your state's website by doing a search like maine.org, mass.org, etc. On the website should be a place to contact the state's district attorney's office where you can ask them questions.
Also if the school trys to kick you out go to the local media. All the local TV news stations. Every station has investigative reporting and if you contact them they most likely will help you.

What you don't mention is if this is a public school verses a private or parochial school. A private/parochial school usually has a "code of conduct" and I am sure that when you started scool there you agreed to abide by there rules or suffer their wrath. If you indeed are attending a public school then I would contact an attorney for a free consultation. I would think that if he/she were to fire off a letter to the board of education you would be walking with the rest of your class. Good Luck!

NO! That is discriminatory! I would call your local news station and have them come down to your school and embarass the hell out of them. Are there people in wheelchairs graduating with their class? If they can get a wheelchair up there, then you certainly walk up there being pregnant. That is SO wrong!
If they're worried about you embarassing them, at least you didn't drop out of school and start on the welfare checks. You are not a leper. You are carrying a child and that is a beautiful thing. Do NOT let them intimidate you. Call your news ASAP.

They can not discriminate against you for pregnancy. They have no right to deny you your diploma and they have no right in any way to say any hurtful remarks. Just because you are pregnant means nothing, their jobs are to help and teach, and it is their responsibility to make sure each student trys to be the best they can be. Don't let this slide. Take it to a lawyer, the news, anyone you have to, to fight for your rights. The morals of society are not law, just because they don't like doesn't mean anything.

Yep it's perfectably acceptable in a lot of places. The school doesn't want to get the bad image that you would show. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with being a teen mom, I'm just saying being a teen mom isn't socially accepted and the school doesn't want grief. I never experienced this firsthand, but I know people who have.
Schools can't NOT let you graduate but they can tell you that you can't go to the ceremony.

Yes, this is quite right.
"Graduating with one's class" simply means walking across the stage in the cheesy cheap gown and getting the diploma handed to you by the principal. The important documents - your transcripts are mailed later.
She'll graduate, but just not walk across the stage.
Schools, public or private have every right to uphold standards of behavior for their students. Unwed teenage pregnancy is something that should be discouraged, not honored by allowing an unwed teenaged mother to cart her baby across the graduation stage with her.
It is too bad that unwed teen age pregnancy is now considered so normal that a "girl in trouble" can scream discrimination and actually get some mileage out of it!
You are not a role model, and what you have allowed to happen to you should not be "normalized". Finish school, but do not expect to be allowed to trot your baby with you when you graduate.
You need to concentrate on your studies and consider transferring to an alternative highschool and contact your local Catholic, Lutheran or Baptist social services and make arrangements for your baby to be adopted by a responsible married couple.
You need to learn a trade or go to college and establish yourself in a self supporting career before taking on the task of raising a child. Children raised by young unmarried women often grow up in poverty caused by their mothers' lack of education and no marketable skills beyond minimum wage jobs.
Get married first, then have a baby after you and your husband have established good solid careers.
If you are attending a private school you may want to transfer to a public alternative school where many "girls in trouble" attend while pregnant.

Doesn't sound right to me. Unless you are in a Catholic school or other religious school. Then my dear, you are screwed. If you are attending a public school, I'd go right to the top and demand my right to attend. If you still get nowhere, try the media. Good Luck!

No this is not right. Contact the ACLU. There are so many cases they take on that I find crazy, but this one seems very disturbing. I would contact them ASAP.
This is ridiculous. Do you go to a religious/private school? They may have this somewhere in their fine print, but I would definitely fight this. What BS, this really aggravates me!!!!
