I was raised a Christian. I studied Judaism for about 10 years and almost converted. Those 10 years were hellish in my household, because my mom couldn't stand that I wasn't a Christian. Then, I had doubts about Judaism, and the literalness of the Bible, etc. I started to go to church again, and mom was thrilled of course. But in the meantime, I have become a Hindu. Mom has no idea, and I refuse to tell her, because I can't stand to go through that hell again. If she was that upset over me being Jewish, can you imagine her reaction to me being Hindu, which she knows next to nothing about?
Ok, today was Diwali, and since I'm at home (even though I'm 31) I didn't get to do anything in celebration. It has made me sad. I feel hindered from my worship of God because of having to hide all forms of my religious expression from Mom.
I recently attended a Catholic Church, and I really felt the presence of God there. Even though I'm a Hindu, I accept Christianity as a valid way of

approaching God.
I see a lot of similarities between Catholicism and my own faith.
I've been thinking that PERHAPS I could sort of half be Catholic, and perhaps my mom would not mind that. And that way, I could freely express my devotion without feeling hindered.
However, my mom is a Protestant, and I think she would be upset even to find out that I was interested in Catholicism. And in reality, I could never be fully Catholic. I could be Catholic in name and actions, but in my heart, I have Hindu beliefs (karma, reincarnation, God in many forms, etc.)
Well, do you think Mom would just be happy to find out I was a Christian at all and put up with the fact that it wasn't Methodist? Or should I just continue to hide all my religious expression? I refuse to do anything that would knowingly cause her undue suffering. (She's sick as it is)

I am not God, but if you want to hear my opinion, I think that being Catholic sounds like your destiny for now. Catholicism is a form of Christianity, no matter what the naysayers say. If you felt the presence of God there, then God may be telling you that this is what you are to do for now. You have plenty of years of your life ahead to decide about hinduism. One of Pat Boone's daughters converted to Catholicism, and he learned to accept it. I bet your mother will too.

When I started reading your question about your Mom and all, I was looking for your age. I was surprised it was 31 and not 14. You are a grown woman now. You need to stop worrying about your mommy's opinions of you. Sounds like co dependency, learned helplessness or something of that nature. Cut the umbilical cord, get out of the nest and fly. Are you still living with her? Or in a place close by? I recommend you move away, far away from her to an exciting city and learn how to live like a big girl. Else I'm afraid you'll never grow up. Sounds like your mom may be very very controlling. You'll never find out who are you till you get away. And that's the biggest issue here, not the religious stuff. Oh by the way, I was raised Catholic but am now a Wiccan...my Mom is dead but I learned to live without her while she was still alive.

The answer to your problem is Only and only Quran! Why?
1) It is the One and Only divien book which is protected in its ORIGINAL LNGUAGE from day 1 (Now over 1400 years and the langauge is as fresh as day 1, a lviningmirical by the God with no parallel exmaple
2) Quran has saved the truth from prviosu divine books and has remoived all man made fabrications
3) Hindusism is very ancient and none of its books are protected
4) Hinduism ake man worship cow and statuers which is totally non sense. Taking partners with the God is the gravest sin whcih the God has promised that He woudl not forgive unless of course osmeone repents and ask His frgiveness and naver again commit shirk i.e. taking partners with the Only and True God
As teh God is the Most Merciufl and the Most comapssionate, it is only logicla that HE would protect His books for guiding human beings and that is the Quran

Seems to me you need to handle you relationship with you mom through good communication and stop using religion as an excuse for the breakdown in general understanding.
Your spiritual search shouldn't create this much upset between you and your mom. There must be a more basic reason for the lack of mutual understanding between you as mother and daughter.

Maybe you are being called home. I'm sure that the Scott Hahn book "Rome Sweet Home" (scotthahn.com) would speak directly to you. In your journey, you've probably found many similarities among faiths. This is because faith is born from Natural Law (not to be confused of the Law of the Jungle) instilled in us by God. The Catholic faith is built upon and perfects Natural Law. Seek the Truth there. You won't be disappointed.
Peace,
MoP

If you feel the Presence of God the Almighty Father in a Catholic church, then you should convert to that religion, because God calls you from there. Answer Him.

You were closer to the right track with Judaism. The Bible is literal and spiritual in its nature. The law of God and all ten of his commandments still need to be followed. Unfortunately the Jews try to be holier than God, and add their owl man-made laws; this made it imposible for them to recognize the Messiah when he arrived. Most christian sects try to eliminate Gods laws. If you will thoroughly study the Bible and history, you will see that a power other than God is behind the Catholic Church.
The main reason that your mother won't accept you turning to another religeon is that she doesn't have the peace and love of God in her heart.
Religeon isn't something that you do, it is supposed to be your life and who you are. The true God that created this world wants to have a close relationship with you. Jesus Christ is the only way.

If you Accepted Jesus as your Saviour and got Born-Again by Accepting HIM (no kidding around when you Asked HIM to Come into your Heart (Spirit) and Save (Recreate) you (a Spirit, living in a Body)------then You are a Child of GOD. Just Start Reading your Bible and ask GOD (in Jesus Name) to show you Who you are. That will Solve the Religious Problems you have been having.

You should stop playing games. At 31 you are old enough to choose hell or heaven. The fact that you are still at home and 31 also raises many questions. Do you have mental problems, or maybe on drugs. You are trying to live a life that can not be lived. You need to grow up and do your thing. If you are right--amen. If you are wrong---oh well.
But move along-this is sheer stupidity, what you are trying to do.
