Hi Dan

Here are several ideas to try to kill the infection

Causes of Urinary Tract Infection
The primary cause of urinary tract infection is bacteria that are unable to be eliminated from the urinary tract. The problem is not due to bacteria getting in to the urinary tract, but to bacteria not being able to get out.

Menopause can increase the risk of urinary tract infection developing because, during menopause, levels of the hormone estrogen decline in the body, making it easier for bacteria to stick to the lining of the urinary tract.

Preventing Urinary Tract Infection
In order to prevent urinary tract infection, women should do the following:

Avoid urinating after intercourse until necessary. Full urination enables the body to more effectively eliminate bacteria from the urinary tract.

Consider your choice of contraceptive. Women should avoid the use of overly large fitted diaphragms, as these prevent effective voiding of the bladder, especially after intercourse. Contraceptive sponges can cause similar problems. Better birth control options are to wear a cervical cap, or to have your partner wear a condom.

Natural Cures
Aromatherapy: Take a bath to which one or more of the following essential oils have been added: bergamot, chamomile, eucalyptus, juniper, lavender, and sandalwood. Receiving a massage with these oils can also be effective for reducing pain in the lower back and/or around the pubic region.

Diet: Healthy eating is of primary importance. Increase your intake of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, and complex whole grains, as well as organic, free-range meats, poultry, and wild-caught fish.

Avoid all commercial, processed, and nonorganic food, as well as alcohol, coffee, sugars, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, food dyes, milk and dairy products, wheat and wheat products, and refined carbohydrates. Do not eat saturated, trans-, hydrogenated or partially-hydrogenated fats and oils. Instead choose from virgin coconut butter/oil, extra virgin olive oil, high lignin flax seed oil, and unrefined hemp seed, walnut, and sunflower oils.

Foods that are rich in the amino acids phenylalanine, tryptophan, tyrosine, and tyramine should also be avoided, as these amino acids can cause irritation in the urinary tract. Such foods include avocados, bananas, chocolate, citrus fruits, figs, and yogurt. Dried fruits, mushrooms, commercial fruit and vegetable juices, leavened bread, pizza, and pasta should only be eaten sparingly, if at all, since they can aggravate symptoms.

Drink plenty of pure, filtered water throughout the day, as well as 16 ounces of either organic, unsweetened blueberry or cranberry juice, both of which are high in a natural sugar known as mannose, which helps to prevent bacteria from sticking to the cells of the urinary tract.

In addition, have yourself screened for potential food allergies and sensitivities and avoid those foods for which you test positive.

For the complete whole foods eating plan we recommend to heal and eliminate all imbalances and disease, connect to the full article: Whole Foods Diet. In many cases, a raw food eating plan can be extremely beneficial. To learn more, read Raw Food Diet.

Herbs: Useful herbs for treating urinary tract infection include fresh parsley (eaten raw or taken as a tea), buchu, corn silk, couch grass, goldenseal, marshmallow leaf, and uva ursi (also known as bearberry). These can be taken as teas or infusions.

Homeopathy: Useful homeopathic remedies include Apis, Arsenicum, Belladonna, Berberis, Calcarea, Cantharis, Causticum, Conium, Lycopodium, Mercurius, Nux vomica, Pulsatilla, and Sepia. For best results, consult with a trained homeopath who can help you select the remedies most appropriate for your specific needs.

Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy is the application of water, ice, steam and hot and cold temperatures to maintain and restore health. Treatments include full body immersion, steam baths, saunas, sitz baths, colonic irrigation and the application of hot and/or cold compresses. Hydrotherapy is effective for treating a wide range of conditions and can easily be used in the home as part of a self-care program. Many Naturopathic Physicians, Physical Therapists and Day Spas use Hydrotherapy as part of treatment.

There are several effective at-home hydrotherapy treatments. For urinary tract infections, we highly recommend contrast sitz baths of alternating hot and cold water to relieve symptoms. Hot and cold compresses can also be applied over the lower back and pelvic region. Please seek the advice of your alternative health care practitioner before undergoing these procedures to make sure they are appropriate for you.

*Purified water is essential for any hydrotherapy treatment. Remedies for Treating Chlorinated Bath Water offers clear instructions and recommendations.

Juice Therapy: The following juice combinations can help to relieve symptoms: apple and carrot; cranberry; carrot, celery, parsley, and spinach; carrot, beet, and cucumber (for added benefit, add garlic or onion juice); and watermelon juice.

Nutritional Supplements: Useful nutrients include vitamin A, beta carotene, zinc, and acidophilus.

Add half a teaspoon of mannose powder to pure filtered water and drink it every one to two hours to speed recovery.

Topical Treatment: Apply half a teaspoon of plain, organic yogurt around the opening of the vagina after intercourse.

Best of health to both of you

Cheers

If she keeps following all the advice given to her by her doctor and antibioticcs are not working she may be suffering from what is called interstitial cystitis.

This is a chronic form of cystitis rather than an acute bacteial form and is caused by food allergies and will not get better with antibiotics.

What happens is that some foods cause the urine to be too acid. For this type of cystitis you should use preparations like Cymalon, Canestan or Boots Cystitis relief - they contain the same ingredients, but these sachets, liquid or tablets are taken in water 3 times a day over a period of 48 hrs and serve to make the urine less acidic.

If this does work better than antibiotics then it is the chronic form and she needs to work out what food she has had in the last half day before the start of the attack and then rule it out from her diet. It may be more than one type of food.

I've got it and mine was anchovies - even anchovy paste does it.

Well, there are lots of reasons. Structurally she could just be designed in a way that makes her more prone. She could also be doing something as simple as wiping from back to front instead of front to back. This pulls bacteria in from stool and is the leading cause of urinary tract infections. She needs to be drinking plenty of water. They tell you cranberry juice, because of the vitamin c, but any vitamin c will help. She also needs to make sure that she takes the full amount of antibotics. If she is not finishing off her antibotics not only will the infection come back, but it can learn to be resistent to the antibotics. You also need to find out if anything your doing during intercourse is causing an irritation, ie. the brand of condom or even spreading bateria yourself through a number of practices.

Besides the cranberry juice, the only other suggestions I have are:
1. Urinate immediately after having sex
2. Wipe from front to back
3. Eat blueberries- they are supposed to be good for this
4. Drink A LOT of water- keeps the bacteria flowing instead of hangin' out in the urinary tract.

Good luck. These infections are maddening and painful.

Lots of reasons for UTI's.

Wiping from back to front after urination spreads E coli and can cause them.
Having sex with a full bladder can be a problem for some ladies.
Taking bubble baths can irritate the mucosa of the urethra and cause them.
She may have an anatomical anomaly which sets her up for UTI's.
Her diet may be too rich in carbs and sugars.
She may not drink enough fluids (6-8 eight ounce glasses of water) each day. This leaves her urine too concentrated and may cause UTI's.

Sometimes, the way you have sexual intercourse can be part of the problem. If the urethra is being aggravated, so that it becomes inflamed, that's a place where germs can develop into an infection. Using some type of lubricant to reduce the friction in that area might help. Urinating, and taking a lukewarm bath right after having sex also helps to flush that area and avoid this problem.

I can't answer the why question but if she keeps following her doctors advice and still continues to get infections then she needs to seek other advice. I strongly suggest that she look into alternative medicine. Mainstream medicine treats the symptoms and not necessarily the problem. go to an alternative med practitioner/homeopathy. They treat the whole person. They not only treat the symptom but treat the source of the problem. do a bit of research and see what you come up with .

I have had the same thing. unfortunately some women are pre-disposed to urinary infection. all you can do is take all the advise, drink lots +++++, keep clean (but don't over do it) and always go for a wee after sex. as she gets older she may well grow out of it. i had to stop drinking any fruit juice, as my bladder just can't cope. hope this all helps

Thyroid disease is one of the most common health problems we face today. From a practical standpoint, there are many ways to approach this issue. Learn here https://tr.im/Y0atv

Hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid, is a very common problem, and there are many reasons for this, including drinking chlorinated and fluoridated water, and eating brominated flour.

Chlorine, fluoride, and bromine are all in the same family as iodine, and can displace iodine in your thyroid gland.

Secondly, many people simply aren't getting enough iodine in their diet to begin with. The amount you get from iodized salt is just barely enough to prevent you from getting a goiter.

there are so many reasons why this happens from cleanliness to having a short ureathera, but don't let it go ignored as i had this for many years amdmy doctor didn't see the need to investigate further just handed out antibiotics and it lead to a nasty problem with my kidney which nearly killed me and the baby i was carrying, thankfully he was ok, but i'm left with a very bad kidney
