It would depend upon how high it is and if there are any other medical conditions
Assuming that you are not acually hypertensive, that your blood pressure is not much above 120/80, that you are not on any meds that are raising your heart rate , and that there are no other underlying conditions you might want to try starting with -
1. adding exercise to your life (3 brisk walks for 20 - 30 minutes should do the trick to start)
2. reducing your sodium intake as well as reducing your intake of highly processed foods
3. assuring that you consume at least 64 oz of water
4. limiting caffeine intake
5 getting in a minimum of 3 fruits and 4 veggie servings per day
Also, there is a great deal of research that shows that B vitamins (particularly niacine) is helpful in reducing blood pressups.
ps. my boyfriend is a Dr. and said that the new research and thinking says that 120/80 is normal - anything consistantly much over 120/80 (sans any medication which would raise the heartrate like antidepressants ) while not considered dangerous should be "paid attention to"

high blood pressure = 144/94 not 120/80. There are a variety of drugs (alpha blockers, beta blocker, diuretics and ACE inhibitors ) that can help aleviate hypertension (blood pressure). However, the best way to lower hypertension is to do so naturally through aerobic exercise. It is recommended that average individuals spend anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes of modetrate effort exercise on most days of the week. Moderate level exercising is exercise around 60% of your maximal oxygen intake (Vo2 max)... this figure correlates well with around 70 % of your maximal heart rate (220-your age=maximal heart rate)....
Avoid strength training or focus on the endurance aspect of strength training to avoid raising blood pressure.
Also, avoid adding salt to any food you eat. There's enough natural salt in food.
Avoid stimulants such as caffeine that increase HR.

Well first of all what has your blood pressure been for the last couple of readings? If you are over 140 dystolic then it could be hypertention. eat less salt....exercise more.....and make sure what you eat doesnt have a high sodium content......eat lots of onions and garlic they naturally control blood pressure and its a good way to flavor your food without using salt. Also if you drink tea and coffee instead of soda that will also lower your blood pressure.

I use medication and diet and exercise. Drink alot of water.
Test pressure regularly. I take a low dose of medication.

well I had to get on Atenol and that didnt work so then my doc. told me to keep taking that and then a water pill with it, now I am doing gr8 thank you for asking.
