Our troops need to come home now. What can one person do to help bring this about? Voting has limited effect and no guarantee. Protests are useless. Donating money takes a lot of money. What is the most effective thing I can I do to stop this war?

I was a former soldier (see bio)

I left in 2005 after no WMD and saw my involvment furthered the cause of a senseless invasion

I accepted the vagueness of nothing and no job over the principle of continued slaughter and desolation thanks to invading and war mongering

fortunately, 2 years later, I am finally getting a job (not easy)

from Karate Kid (movie)

Mr. Myagi say "Best way to avoid punch is not be there"

vote with pocketbook and presence

spend "green" or blue and don't support things that are unethical if you can help it.

leave organizations that betray your ideals and principles, ethics

if I "sold out" for a dollar (some get 1000 dollars a day, profiting off the war and 'making a killing') I couldn't live with myself. I turned over 15 years of Fed. Service just to have nothing but honorable discharge and came home to family who had nothing and I didn't know anymore, and found out I had PTSD and blood ailments, DU poisoning/ Kuwaiti-Iraqi 'crud' flu/cold symptoms and then got everyone else sick too

peace

If America pulls out of Iraq, this doesn't end the Iraq war, it pulls America out. Does that mean there is no war over there? Do we act like it's all good because we are home now? Widen your minds, TRY to see the big picture.
I do agree with you that protesting is useless, it's also a painful act toward the people that have to witness it and know they have family members that are doing their job in being a part of it all; painful to the people that have to witness it that have lost family members during this war.
I suspect this country's participation in this war will drastically be reduced by the early months of 2008, just in time for election news.

Alas, voting is our single chance to send a message which counts!

It's sick that people would take the sacred gift of Voting away from the common folk in order to remain powerful and rich. In the face of that, the Democrats and Republicans have run to the middle so much and placated so many people with money, that there's not a thin dime's difference in their overall performance.
Both parties support all "War on X". They only know how to draft restrictive and punitive laws. Politicians and governments are not good at "convincing" people. Only FORCING them to obey.

Getting more people to vote in the first place will help diminish the power politicians have of buying groups' support with campaign promises. The more voters, the less the fraud will effect an election result.

For me, I vote third party only. Most Libertarian party candidates are against the Iraq War. http://www.lp.org
You have more choices than you are led to believe. To see ALL of the ballot choices in your district, go to Project Vote Smart. non-partisan

1st just remember that every single action no matter how small has an affect. Vote, write your congressman, sign petitions, join protests, write your president, start blogs, tie yellow ribbons around your tree with signs that say, bring our troops home. Do little things every day for what you believe in. Voting does count, don't ever think it doesn't. Politicians build their entire platform based on public opinion.

Obama is so grandiose. He needs to bypass down in historic previous by fact the president who ended the iraq warfare. His information of the warfare could desire to be written on a pin head. he's extra thinking his own photograph than the soliders or the iraqi human beings.

You might try going to Iraq and start a movement of people preaching Peace. You can get your crowd to parade about and maybe influence the terrorists to be nice instead of killing people. I'm sure some of them will listen to you.

The only problem is that most of them have their own ideas of what they want for Iraq and they may not listen to you. But if you really feel the way you sound, give it a go, what can you loose except getting killed.

Hi there,
i just posted a question to yahoo for lthe first time in months, and then somehow iwas reading your question..
and it really connected me to your exact sentiment.

The other people who answered, most of them i agree with also,
I do not have your answer how one person could make a difference, and then a miracle,
I just feel that it is a crime against life, the lives of our troops, their families, loved ones, and yes the Innocent people in Iraq, who did not ask us to come there, and because of George Bush, lies, and his plan, we are able to hear and see, yet do nothing to stop this.

To type words and emotions to each other, and to the world thru this internet, Yet, even when i am finished tonight, even if i cry, or pray, or beg GOD, to exercise his power......and Zapp everything away, and end the war,, the truth is, life will go on for you and me, right?
MAYBE I WILL DIE TOMORROW, probably not, but it could happen,,
The strongest feeling and emotion at this moment is, i am so angry, furious, and sad that this is happening, and my heart is so heavy, and broken thinking of all the people who are DEAD , and are only alive in the minds and hearts of those who love them......but SO F----NG WHAT,
THEY ARE DEAD, AND THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED TO THEM, AND IT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TOMORROW AND THE NEXT DAY, FOR OTHER YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN,, WHO HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE IN THEIR OWN LIVES,,

I AM FRUSTRATED, and maybe rambling, ,,,,i want you to know that i feel helpless, and if i could trade my life, and that one thing made hatred stop long enough to grant your wish,, i would,
Sure, it is easy for me to say,,, but i am fifty eight years old, still young, and have goals and dreams, i have made a mess of my life in many ways, and i have had great times, and not putting myself down, but truly, my value to the world, or my virtue has been discovered and used, and yet iam here, and wondering what is in store for me,,
and i do not want to die, but i would in a heartbeat, if i could pay back for the good i have known and experienced, and give the troops a chance at life,,
That would make sense, however, this is reality,,
In closing, i know i sound questionable, my answer is as sincere as your question,, yet it seems foolish,
Maybe, if all the people in the world who feel the same as you and I, FELT THE SAME , AND ASKED THE SAME QUESTION AT THE SAME MOMENT,, WE COULD CONNECT, AND GREAT POWER, WOULD MAKE THE WORLD TURN INTO A SCI-FI MOMENT, AND OUR WISH WOULD BE GRANTED, AND STOP THIS WAR,
MAYBE, IF WE ALL PRAYED,, TOGETHER, AND ALL LOVED THE SAME GOD,
I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR ASKING THIS,
AND SAY, I FEEL LESS ALONE KNOWING YOU FEEL AS I DO,

Suck it up sniveler! If the war ended now all is lost and those brave men and women who gave all did it for nothing. Your time would be better spent keeping females from aborting innocent babies. One person can make a difference there.

Bring home all our troops and let them fight their own Civil War. If they want to kill each other off the way they have been, then more power to them. We need to start minding our own business and stop trying to dictate how other countries are to live. They have their ways and we have ours....and we sure dont like anyone telling us what we should be doing!!

Lets spend some of these millions of dollars by feeding and housing our own here at home.

Petition your MP, MLA, Congress representative, whoever-you-know-who-speaks-to-the-folks-at-the-top-of-the-food-chain

Make enough of a stink, and you can do anything. Thats the nature of the democracy we like to enforce on everyone.
