A state trooper pat roles the highways....police (or municipalities) patrol towns, villages, or cities. Troopers do have the authority to enforce the law anywhere in their state, but they don't always make more $$ then municipal police. Troopers in my state don't make more $$ than my dept cause our town has a ton of revenue coming in from businesses like car dealerships (we have a lot of em).
I wouldn't agree that troopers have more training....just different training since they have to concentrate mainly on traffic stuff. A trooper definitely knows more than I do about overweight violations for truckers, but lacks the knowledge (gained from experience) on handling domestic situations.
Our jobs are different, yet the same. I will say that I don't envy them because when things go wrong and they need backup, it often takes some time for said backup to arrive. Our backup is (depending on the type of call) either already on the scene, or just a minute or two away.
We both share a common goal and I have respect for what they have to do.

State Troopers (here in California, the Highway Patrol). The CHP, for example, is recognized worldwide as an elite paramilitary force.
Ordinary cops very greatly in quality, or lack thereof.

Id say a state trooper since they can give tickets anywhere within their state where as a regular cop has to stay in his city

Well... Looking at this from a common sense point of view... State troopers are highway patrols... Patrolling highways... They are most likely to be involved in high speed pursuits, where as city patrols are more involved in manuevering techniques for driving, and a general higher training source in general, because statitiscts show their is more crime in a city than in outskirts... I see alot of peopel saying highway patrols make more, but i find it hard to beleive seeing that when you look at it common sense wise... city cops are dealing with imore crime and risks daily than a highway patrol m an would... So I say police are more elite.. But they both have power.

It depends who's at your door. LOL
The State trooper generally has a higher salary range and state benefits.
The both tend to want a life of service, and that takes something special inside...........much like firemen!

Both are law enforcement officers.
Both have a job to do
To classify one as "more elite" than the other is unfair to them, and unnecessary
