I want to get a punching bag to use at home and I was wondering if I should get a canvas or a vinyl. Is there any difference?

I think that your writing about a Heavybag, regardless if it's a Heavy bag, speedbag or double end bag Ringside. com will have all your needs. Ringside sells their equipment at fairly reasonable prices and they sell free standing bags (Bags you don't have to hang) and "Home Gyms" the catalog will explain. If you find that you like working out with boxing equipment you can always upgrade and go to Grant.com and look at their equipment.
You can't go wrong with a water bag from Ringside.com, it's a bag filled with eighty pounds of water (they sell different sizes) and it's easy on your hands compared to traditional bags. The number one thing you have to remember while purchasing a Heavy bag, buy high quality bag gloves and hand wraps, Ringside.com also sells them.
Once you purchase a item from Ringside they will send you a catalog filled with anything you need for home use or a gym completely free.
Good Luck C B.

I would get a vinyl bag. I have both, If you punch or kick the canvas bag a little incorrectly you skin your knuckles a lot easier than with the vinyl.

You left out the best bag, leather. Next to that I would say canvas although you must have good gloves on when hitting it. I have seen to many vinyl bags and gloves crack and split with out a lot of useage.

Speed bag or heavy bag? Speed bag -get leather if you can; heavy bag, canvas or leather - use good gloves on all of these, please.

Get a speed ball. You want speed and skills. Don't get something that is similar to a brick wall.
