My cat is pretty well-behaved, but I am not able to correct her. If she wants to do something, no matter how many times she gets in trouble, she always repeats the behavior. For example, no matter how many times she gets under foot and gets stepped on, she continues to get underfoot. She continues to break venician blinds, etc. The only thing I can do with her is cut off her access to things she breaks and whatnot, but my question is: What is it about cats that they don't change when their actions bring an undesired result for them? If a child gets in trouble, they likely stop repeating the behavior. So do dogs. What is it about cats?

Here's the deal. Cats are psycho. They have things that attack them that only the cat can see. Usually the invisible thing attacks and chases at 2 am in your bedroom. Suck it up and deal with it. Your kitty will be cute and cuddly soon. They just need to get rid of their energy! :-)

So funny you ask. I have not ever been here to ask or answer questions before but I was searching the web looking for a cat answer too. I didn't find the answer to mine but the answer to yours is that some cats will always be dominate. Always have their way....always, always always. I was on the Purina web site and just read that.
My question about cats is....I have a doggie door for 2 dogs, I am a first time cat owner of a nuetered 7 month old. I am so afraid for him outside. There are some BIG males in my neighborhood. Is he old enough to protect himself yet?

My cats have learned to stay out of my path when I walk! I shuffle my feet, slowly and gently, and keep walking until I actually (very gently!) nudge the cat with my foot, and say "Keep moving! Look out, kitty!" and they have learned what this means.
Now, I have to say is "Look out! Look out!" and they get up and get out of my way, fast!
I squirt them with a water bottle when they climb things or chew electrical cords, and they stop.
If they are doing something I do not like, I HISSSSSS at them, and they STOP.
I would suggest spending more time socializing your cat(s).
They are nowhere near as eager to please as dogs, and certainly will NEVER be as bright as children (consider brain-size!), but they CAN be taught!
My cats come when I whistle or call them, and some of them play fetch.
One of my cats (joined my household at six years of age) has recently decided that she likes to lay on my desk when I am at the computer. She keeps encroaching into MY space, laying on the mouse, etc.
We are in our third or fourth day of learning which is MY space, and which is HERS. We are just about there. All my other cats already know they may walk on the desk, lay on top of the monitor, etc, but they may NOT touch the keyboard or mouse. They carefully avoid them, and step around them.
I NEVER strike or punish my cats (except for squirting), but they have learned what I will, and will not, accept.
It simply takes a LOT of patience.
I spend a LOT of time on my cats, however.

Cats have their own reasons for doing things.
How do you know the behavior didn't bring about the desired result?

for getting underfoot, it sounds like she wants to be close to you and dosen't remember she'll be stepped on. for other more destructive behavior there is a solution: get a spray bottle like you would spray plants with. Fill it with 90% water, and 10% white vinnegar. when you catch her doing something naughty, give her a little spray. She'll quickly stop the behavior. It dosen't hurt them, they just don't like the smell or taste.

actually not all cats are like that, 2 of my 3 cats are very well behaved and listen very well....if they are about to do something they arent allowed to do I tell them to behave and they do...the 3rd is a different story..he is more like your cat and I cant get him to stop some bad behaviors for anything. so i just pick him up and overly love him up, figuring that he is doing this for attention.

Cats were once looked upon as gods. They have never forgotton this. I heard this saying once before and I believe it;s true. I know what you're going through. My cats are exactly the same. As they grow up, they won't be as annoying but for now, I don't think there's much you can do about it.

Mine loves the strings on blinds for the window. When I leave for work both blinds are all the way up out of reach. The other 6 windows I just tell her "Don't even think about it".

Cats are one of the meanest pets. They attack scratch, break and everything else under the sun. You should consider brinding her to a shelter or selling her to somebody who dosent give a crud if they get clawed or their house has scratched up. I would give some big consideration to getting a dog. They are nicer than cats even though they poo or pee in the house. Even though they jump bark and all that other stuff, they are one of the most reliable and loyal pet or companions you could ever have! Why get a mangey cat when you can get a sweet dog? You will think about this when it goes into heat, they yowl like banschies.
