Im not sure what pablum is however you should be able to give him food from a jar. 1st stage is the best to start with. Also rice cereal that is made for babys mixed with baby food is good to start. Babys should not be left alone unless they are in a confined area. Like a play pen or a crib where NO hazards are present. He should not be left alone in the bath tub or left to eat alone ever. These are not safe and could cause harm or cause death to your baby.

I have no clue what pablum is. I gave my 7 month old jar food and blended real food. All babies are different--he should be trying to roll over maybe attempt to sit up with help, maybe hold its heads up on his own. Babies develop differently if you are really concerned ask your Doctor, just be patient and let your child develop at his own pace

My daughter started getting sick of it at 4 months, I added a little bit of baby jar food.....bannanas and apples to it for flavor and that was fine. Just make sure you feed one new food for about 3 or 4 days to make sure he is not allergic to it, then introduce a new one, continuing feeding the bottle. I think about 6 months, I increased the amounts of "real" food, doing the same food for days thing to make sure he is not allergic.
My baby is now 11 months and make all of her food, I started at about close to 7 months with a food processer and freezing it in ice cube trays. She eats tofu and veggies and fish and pasta and rice.
Everybaby is different on how they progress, he will sit up when he is ready, I am sure any time soon. And before you know, he will be walking!!!!!!

In regards to sitting up, my kids both sat up around 6 months or so but each child is different, he'll be there soon. My pediatrician told me I could incorporate new foods into my childrens diet at about 6 months, but with my daughter she would not have it! Usually applesauce is a good one to mix in with the cereal since they're already used to that or peaches also. My daughter wouldn't eat anything but table food until about 10 months, so I just chopped everything up very small. She really likes chopped up peaches (canned or fresh) mixed in with her cereal. Now that she is almost one she still eats that just bigger chunks. And fresh peaches are easy since they're juicy so you put the juice in too and it adds more flavor. Good luck, it gets easier!

My God, where are you finding Pablum? I used to love that when I was little and I would eat it now if I could find it! Please reply to me and let me know. I don't know anything about baby food or feeding babies, otherwise. Best to leave that up to the "experts" (other moms).

My baby is five months old and eats baby oatmeal and also every kind of "stage 2" (refers to consistency usually) baby food that they make--all the fruits, all the veggies, even some mixed with meat for protein. So yes, start introducing your baby to other things. I would start with green veggies, then orange veggies, then fruit--go from "yuckiest" to "yummiest".
