You can go as a football player - where the pants, jersey (no pads too uncomfortable) and put the black under your eyes. Pirate, Julius Cesar in a toga with a leaf circle on your head.

If you're trying to impress the girl, find out what she's going as and make sure tha tyour costume compliments it.
IE, if she's doing Pebbles, do Bam-Bam - if she's doing Buffy, do Angel....
