It was a pure mathematical calculation.
Constantine knew the Roman Empire was crumbling, and he thought unity would be the only hope, and since 20% of Romans were Christians (the largest religious group), he figured Christianity would be a safe bet.

You are being gullible to believe that Constantine designed Christianity.
The only role that Constantine had was to end the persecution of Christians. it was a later emperor that made Christianity the state religion.

There are two types of Christians: those who are Christianized and those who are converted. Christianized Christians are waiting on the Lord, listening to sermons, trying to be good people, but don't really know Christ. Converted Christians are those that have been born again by the spirit of God with a regenerated heart. Sometimes you'll see for example a drug addict, or prostitute suddenly stop living a sinful lifestyle and be completely on fire for Christ. Christianized Christianity is not what Jesus preached. Jesus preached that to enter the kingdom of heaven you must be born again. Born of the spirit of God. When God regenerates your heart and gives you new desires to seek after Him, to seek holiness, righteousness, and truth, then you have become a new creation. Born again.

Constantine himself didn't design Christianity. What he did do was gather together the leading Christian theologians of the time, and they developed a series of beliefs that they had in common, which formed the basis for the faith.
Constitine himself, though, didn't convert to Christianity until he was on his deathbed.

I dunno..I wouldn't have guessed it. I try to give people credit and don't underestimate them, but sometimes I think some just can't use reason.

You are very poorly educated on Christianity. The early church was operating and making converts long before Rome came into the picture. How do you think Christianity got to Rome to begin with? It was started in Jerusalem!
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. -John 3:18

he didnt know that but then I am certain he also didnt know they would commit murderous atrocities in the name of his savior either.history and present day religions disgust me, I love Jesus and follow his teachings as God shows me through prayer and meditation none of it includes cruelty, stupidity, or hate, or money for that matter.I cant blame you for asking so many make themselves targets by behaving the fool like that David Korresh, didnt any of those genus followers he had stop to ask if you are god what do you need with sex or guns?Jeesh God must have been up there banging his head on that one.

Pretty much, he said, "oh crap, all these weird-o's really believe this stuff and it is hurting my power, I better do something". So then he called the Council of Nicea and they put together the bible. The only reason he did any of this was to make himself more powerful and to try to reunite the empire

Constantine had nothing to do with Christianity. He made it unlawful to persecute Christians, and allowed them to gather publicly for meetings. That's all he did. Prior to Constantine Christianity was unlawful.
