No.
He would give it regardless.

Jesus knows very well the poor do not deserve charity. Any more than I deserve to be forgiven and accepted by God because of His sacrifice at the cross.
However Jesus was in the "business" of grace, not giving what one deserves. And if we have received grace, then we give grace - we don't only help people because they deserve it.
Erica makes an interesting point - why doesn't Jesus feed the hungry today? You see the church (that is, all believers) constitute Jesus' body on earth, and I'm afraid the church is not being very obedient when it comes to feeding the hungry.
Let's not blame Jesus for that. He is counting on us to do it. That's you and me.

What would the poor have to do to deserve charity? Why wouldn't they qualify for it?
I think if the poor needed charity, then Christ would have no problem offering it, regardless of whether they "deserved" it.

Of course He did.It even says they had money they gave the poor and Judas kept it.John says Judas you to filch some of the dough.
When Jesus fed the 5000 and later the 4000,that was possibly the 1rst time a lot of them had ever had a full stomach.Times were hard under Roman rule.

Depends on the charity. Charity for the sake of charity is wrong. Charity to help someone out of a rut and back on their feet is ok. The problem with the government charity is it is given to people who are able and it makes them slaves to the government. This is morally wrong.

Jesus wouldn't clown around on the issue of charity, Jesus like his Father has compassion.

Jesus does care. He gave to those in need while on earth and gave us (all of humanity) the greatest gift of salvation by dying on the cross and raising on the 3rd day. (Just a note: A gift is not good unless it is accepted) Think about it.

He would see them all deserving of charity just as He sees us all as deserving of His sacrifice... He died even for those who will not believe in Him...or His Father whom sent Him and laid this burden of love upon His heart... He healed the lepers who didn't thank Him as well as the one who did...that's His heart He still loves us even when we don't love Him

He never cared before whether it was deserved or not. But he would run the risk of being seen as self-serving anyway, because he always told people to 'sin no more'; and he didn't always wait to be invited to 'preach' to them either. (;p)
Hoping the best for you...
