There is not any set schedule by which cats must eat... they're like people, and will eat when they are hungry. Cats tend to be "grazers", where they'll eat in small amounts all throughout the day. I have found with my cats (especially as they get older) that they tend to put on excessive weight (just like people!) if they're allowed to eat as much as they want, all day long. I have started feeding my cats in two small meals a day - once in the morning when we wake up and once around dinner time. Once the food is gone, my cats are done for the day.

One thing to remember when feeding your cats -- make sure they always have access to clean, fresh water, especially if your cats are fed a diet only of dry cat food.

I have (2) cats and I have feed them twice a day. Small amounts of food 3/4 cup or a hand full. I hope this helps out those who have multiple cats.

cats are grazers... with small tummies they need to eat little bits of food several times a day - they need access to dry food 24 hours a day...
canned is optional but kittens under 6 months should get a SMALL amount of canned once a day.. under 3 months - twice or more a day (small = 1 teaspoon) chicken and rice ideally

if the cat is on good quality dry it will need to eat lots less than if its on one of the grocery or wal mart foods - which are mostly filler... also the cat will poop less

I just leave dry food down all day and let them decide when they want to eat. Neither of them eats so much that they are fat. I give them the good stuff (canned cat food) at night when I am making dinner for myself.

We have 8mth old kittens and we feed them twice a day, in the morning and evening.

We feed them high quality dry food to meet all their nutrient requirements. 1/4ish cup in the morning, and 1/4ish cup at night.

For a 'treat' they receive canned food once a week.

We do not leave dry food out all day... well I guess we are by feeding them but they do not leave any! Our cats are lean and muscular, they are not carrying any extra weight.
