Are there any restaurants and places to see for a few hours? I just found out that my rental car won't be available for about 5 hours when I arrive, so I have a few hours to spend near the airport.

The airport is isolated and small; That side of the Big Island is mostly lava fields-its not like Honolulu. There is a restaurant/bar, a newstand, lei stands and a couple souvenier kiosks. I lived in Waimea for many years, and as nice of an airport as it is, I wouldn't want to spend 5 hours there. Kailua-Kona town is about six miles south of the airport, but not accessable without a car. If you can get down to Ali'i Drive, that is a walkable touristy area; however, with luggage, etc, I don't know how that woould work. There are several rental car companies there-If yours can't accomodate you, I would see if another can.

Not much in walking distance, kind of like the proverbial middle of nowhere. I believe you are entitled to a free upgrade on a rental car if your requested car is not available. Dollar rental gave me a P T cruiser convertible last saturday because they were out of economy cars.

I dont think of there are any places in any respect u can pass in strolling distance. JFK is unquestionably top on the line, so which you probably prefer t haul a cab to pass everywhere. you will be greater effective off staying in JFK. you have gotten some flight delays from you flight till now, and there in lots of cases are some rather stable places to consume interior JFK. Going out will make each thing complicated. you may might desire to lower back by way of protection and each thing. you will no longer have any time.
