if someone got u inside a small boat and let it sail to the middle of the ocean and leave you there (just u and the boat and nothing else)... who would you ask for help? or would you just wait until something happens?

Since this is a hypothectical arguement, my boat would have a fishing rod, some fresh water on board, a navigation map an a compass. That way I would get myself out of that mess because I'm educated and understand how to survive on a boat because I've been trained to in the 40 years I've been living next to the dumb god fearing types.

Otherwise without sayd equipment I'm pretty sure I would die, alone, in a small boat in the middle of the ocean. Eventually my remains would wash up on shore somewhere as all oceans have a current to them and drift along land somewhere.

Here's a question back at you. Why don't you worship Santa? He's appearently all knowing, and omnipresent. Why make the mistake of worshipping god, when you can worship another diety that appearently has the exact same powers as the Christain god.

If I were you I'd make the switch now.

As Marx would say, religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of the heartless world, just as it is, the spirit of the spiritless conditions, it is the opium of the people.
The belief in a supreme being actually started that way, the helpless and ignorant man seeking the cause and solutions to his misery.
An atheist will find a scientific way out of his predicament rather than seek the assistance of something he knew doesn't exist.

I would rely on myself, not some mythical being. I'd try to catch fish, I'd row, ANYTHING but sit and cry to the tooth fairy.

And I'd kick the s*&t out of whoever it was that left me out there!

And besides, why would your god allow someone to leave me out in the middle of the ocean? What kind of nice guy is THAT?

I would take action and at least try to paddle a little on my own while also conserving my energy.

Or I guess I could just sit there and do nothing. Is that what youre suggesting?

a true atheist would knowm enough about the world to know when the sun sets it is in the west, and would know which way to sail.

I wouldn't ask God for help. I'd use the radio and call the Coast Guard. Or my cell phone, whichever one worked.

Are you saying that belief is something the mind adopts as a mechanism when faced with its demise?

I would be like Tom Hanks in Castaway and I would rely on my volleyball Wilson for help. Wilson and nobody else. WILSON!
