I see nobody suggested an actual medication. Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc) is decent when used in prescription strength, if you have no contraindications to its use. The regular prescription for an adult over 100 pounds would be ibuprofen 800 mg, four times a day. You can't do this long-term, but it should help you through the weekend.

In addition to using the pain medication of your choice, sleep on an extra pillow to elevate your head. Sleep on the side that does NOT have a toothache. If that doesn't work, you can move to a recliner or the sofa so you can keep your head really elevated. This will minimize the blood flow to the area and therefore minimize the throbbing and pain. This might help you make it through the night until you can see a dentist.

If you have been on antibiotics, you should be able to have the tooth removed on Monday.

I have 2 children and 1 on the way. The absolute worst pain I've ever been in was when I had nerve pain due to a horrible toothache. No joke. A normal toothache, no big deal but I don't think anything could be worse than nerve pain. ETA: I've never gone through labor without an epidural so I can't compare those 2.

Depending on the location of the tooth will determine whether your dentist will pull it or not. Some dentists will only remove a tooth if its absolutely necessary. If you've been on antibiotics for two weeks and are still in pain. See another dentist.
You do have another option until you can get to the dentist.
Go to your local emergency room....Tell the doctor you want as much Novocaine as a human being can have...and some pain pills to get you through the weekend.
This happened to me once and that's what I did.
The doc shot me up gave me a prescription and sent me home.
It worked til Monday when I could get to the dentist to have it pulled.

It's the pits. Anything that will make you feel more comfortable till Monday. For the pain I would take an OTC for night time, if may help you sleep alittle. A heating pad or hot water bottle on you jaw may help. If the pain is in the gum try rubbing Benedrol on it or crushed teething tablets (for infants). They both help with gum pain but it sounds like he hit a nerve. Try sucking on a Popsicle also. Good Luck!

This sounds impossible: If the Dentist gave you antibiotics and you still have a toothache then maybe you have gum disease and he wants to let you down easy. Get the tooth removed and stop annoying the World.

Maybe is not what you want to hear but saving your teeth is the best option, you need them. I am sure the tooth can be extracted but not ideal, Root canals are expensive but you should only invest in it if your are going to take care of it, if you don't then, is better to extract the tooth. Talk to your dentist again! try lortab, is prescription med. or ibuprophen = motrin.

whatever you do avoid the heat and extreme coldness, dont take too many pain killers cause the hospital will give you good stuff that you cant take if you've had too much tylenol, if you get your tooth pulled dont have chicken noodle soup because the noodles could get stuck in the opening and dry up and cause more pain.

That is horrible.

How long has your Dentist been a Dentist? I think the Dr. should have helped this problem a long time ago.

your tooth is probably fractured and root canal might not even save your tooth. make sure it is savable and restorable before you spend your money for root canal.. your last option is to pull your tooth, but it is your first option if you can't afford root canal therapy. by the way i am a dentist :)
