The ultra thin ones are thinner. I personally use those if I know my period is winding down. I mean, when I am spotting. They do not hold as much, since I am very heavy for the first three days.
So, if I was you, I would get the extra-long, overnight pads with wings. The reason why is because, even if it is in the day, you are going to need all the protection you can get. Always is a good brand that I use to use. I use Tampax "The Pearl" now, becuase that is one of the best tampons out there now.

No, the maxis hold more - they're intended for heavy days. Ultra thins work well for medium to light.

Use maxi pads on heavier days and ultra thins on lighter days.
They don't hold as much! Compare them! One's thin and one is huge.

maxis absorb WAYY more, but the ultra thins hold a lot too... just get the right size (such as, super, regular, overnight,etc.)

I think there is a difference. Use ultra only on very lite days.
