The truth is God is capable of using you anywhere. It is usually easier if you go where the Spirit leads. Denomination: Vineyard.

Sorry for not being a believer, but I can tell you that it depends on which Christian denomination you ask.
Catholics believe that you ought to choose a job or career that does not contradict with the teachings of the Church.
Most liberal protestant churches teach much the same as the Catholics.
Calvanists would argue that your life is predetermined by God, so whatever you choose will be that choice which God had already ordained.
More fundamentalist churches would have you pray about your decision and follow God's leading for your life. Vocations and helping positions are highly regarded. If you can do a job whereby you minister to others, in any real way, spreading the light and love of Christ, you won't be doing wrong.
Whatever you choose, I do agree with the last, and that you should have a job which brings glory to your God and is a witness to others. Jesus said to Peter: "Do you love me? ... Feed my sheep." If you're a Christian and consdiering a career, I would follow that advice too.
Again, I'm not a Christian, though once I was. While not being a Christian, I believe that whatever religion you choose, you ought to implement it's teachings fully in your life. To me Christ was an impeccable teacher. (for those that think that I'm diminishing him, look up the word impeccable.) I respect the religion and hold no animosity toward it except where it would demonize my own religion. May your God bless you and keep you as you search for a career.

God gives us the desires of our heart. That is two fold. He places the desire in our heart and then He gives us the thing that we were desiring. Understand this though. He will only do that if you are earnestly seeking after Him and His will. If you think that it means every desire in your heart is from God it is not.
If you desire God's will for your life He has wonderful things for you that will fulfill you beyond any thing that you could choose for yourself.
If you will trust God with your career path instead of choosing your own, He will place a desire in your heart for the thing He has for you and then it will be realized and you will be very fulfilled. It may not be easy because God doesn't promise us an easy life.
I recommend that you do it this way because any thing else will not work anyway. It will be like climbing a ladder to reach the top of a building only to discover that you had your ladder against the wrong building.
I believe that God wants us to allow Him to be Lord over all areas of our life not just some. He is patient with us though. I don't think you would lose your salvation but I do think you may wonder around in the wilderness for a few years until you decided to do it His way.

Satan is real good at mis-leading Christians. If God wants you to be a certain something----He will let you know. Especially if you have a high paying job, Satan can make you think God is calling you to the ministry. God may be calling you to stay where you are and make enough money to support a young pastor or missionary.
I have been a Southern Baptist for about 15 years and recently moved to a Calvary Chapel. I have a college and Seminary degree. I left a very high paying job to enter the ministry. It took me nearly 10 years to figure out what God called me to do. I could have done much more with much less stress if I had just waited a little and listened to God-instead of well intentioned brothers. Take your time. Let God push you-not anyone else.

God leads us in all areas of our life, he gave you talents to be able to do the job you do, he created you in a certain way. I do believe that you will choose the career that you are suited for because we tend to "do what comes natural" we have gifts or talents that help us to also choose our careers. You are not saved and then become "unsaved" because you choose to paint, or work fast food for a living, even if God tells you to be a doctor and you choose to become a writer..he will not send you to hell, our salvation has nothing to do with rather or not we walk in "complete obedience" it only has to do with our faith in the finished work on the cross..because there is no one who will ever be able to walk in complete obedience..that is why we need a savior anyway because there is no such thing as a "good person"..however it would be better if you listen to God if he says to you to become a writer for instance because he knows what lies ahead... born again, blood bought, woman of God, that happens to attend a Nazarene Church for the time being.

What? I don't understand your question. What could choosing a career have to do with losing salvation? And if you are a born again Christian.....wouldn't you seek God before you make any choices such as a vocation?

I am Roman Catholic, but quite a sinner.
So I can't answer...
But I can't help but say (not as an answer understand):
If I could answer you: I'd say GOD does not take a persons career into account, as to if you receive salvation or not. Of course if you plan a career in killing or hurting others (drugs, pimping, etc.) then YES - GOD will definitely be influenced by your career choice!
But say being CEO somewhere, or a doctor, (normal job),etc then no GOD will just help as you do your job, when/if called by you.

Of course God will allow you to choose your own career. He has been preparing you all your life to do the career you choose. Was it Martin Luther who said "Love God and do everything you want to do?" God is not a spoiled sport who is wanting to make sure you will have to choose a career that will make you miserable. Love God, choose the career you want, and God will smile, saying "That's just what I wanted him to do".
I am a Baptist with a strongly calvinistic leaning. (just to give you the info you were asking for - I really don't make that much of my denomination, I am mostly a Christian).

As a Christian, you need to ask if career that you intend to choose violates the principle of your Christian faith or not. If it is violates teaching of the Bible, and compromise your believes, then you need to seriously consider to pick something else.
If you didn’t chose your career yet, and in process to figuring this out, I recommend following site to help you learn about your work personality and avoid career mistakes.
