If the ball looked like being lost you could have hit a provisional ball from the tee. This is "insurance", can save a long walk back to the tee. The ball is lost if you cannot find it in five minutes. You must return to the tee and play another ball. This will be your third shot - penalty is stroke and distance. This becomes the ball in play and so you continue. You would do this in stroke play, however in other games, eg: stableford, you might just abandon the hole and take a loss. It is always advisable, where the ball could be lost to play a provisional ball. See Rule 27.

Not a lot of info here so let's assume (which you would never do in a real event) the "woods" are not marked by any stakes (white, red or yellow). You must declare a "lost ball" if your ball is not found after a maximum of five minutes of searching if you so choose. The rules say you must play a new ball from last spot played, in your case the tee box (re-tee). You are now hitting three. This penalty is referred to as a "stoke and distance" penalty.

yes, it's considered a lost ball, and must be replayed from the teebox. You're penalized a stroke plus distance, meaning you're hitting 3 from the tee. Just like hitting out of bounds. hope that helped!

1st of all dont hit it into the woods.[ cause there are lions and tigers and bears in there ]
if in doubt hit a provision ball off the tee to save time.
stroke and distance is only played in casual play.
under R&A & USPGA rules, you will be hitting 3 off the tee!!!!

It depends... If you hit into the woods and the woods are out of bounds than yes. If the woods are not marked as out of bounds, than you drop the ball and play it from the point of entry, hitting 3.

You are kidding right? You should put all your balls in one bag. Stand on one leg. Jump up and down and pat your head while singing 'My little teapot'.
