Next week is our "step up Sunday" at church and all the teens teach the Sunday school classes. I am teaching the 0-2 class. There are not many in this class. They are mostly around the age of 2. They love to do "hands on" things and love to be involved.

Just trying to get some ideas. I want to teach them something, but I want them to have alot of FUN doing it! =) Any ideas would be appreciated! =) Thanks

A Bible lesson with a fun craft, activity or food

Plan a series of very short activities including all the things you mentioned as well as singing some songs with hand motions. Plan many more things than you think you will need--that way you can move onto something else if it doesn't go well or the kids get restless. The more you keep them moving and occupied, the better off you'll all be.

You can talk about creation and have the kids make their own "ants on a log." You spread the peanut butter on celery sticks and they put the raisins on top.

You don't have much time to prepare. I suggest you go to a store specializing in teaching material for churches. In the city where I live, there is a store called Mardel's, specializing in church and school teaching materials.

Maybe you could find an Ark, some human figurines representing Noah and his family, and animals to fill the ark. Tell the children the story of Noah and the Ark and let the children fill the Ark with animals.

Another idea would be to purchase a few complete sets of the manger scene and talk about the birth of Baby Jesus, allowing the children to arrange the Baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the Wise Men, the shepherds, and the animals as, or after, you tell the story. Get some little tiny hay bales, and don't forget the donkey Mary was riding.

A two-year-old does not have a very long attention span, and you will want to have enough visuals for each to have their own. They don't like to share, either.

You might want to buy small carpet samples for each to sit on, telling them that's probably what small children sat on in Bible times. Teaching is not easy, but it can be rewarding.

By the time they are getting close to two, they really like Bible story books, and you can't do anything more profitable for them. Their attention spam is only a few minutes so change activities frequently. Teach them simple choruses that they can pronounce the words for - Jesus love me is always the greatest hit with that age. A simple craft where they tear up pieces of paper and you glue it on for them to make a design, a created thing like a tree using different colors of green. Find a good object lesson. So they can touch feel taste etc and use it to explain a spiritual truth

The truth is you need to have a puppet show. Use an old sock and draw the smile and eyes on yourself. The children will be enthralled with the new member of the class. The Puppet can play the part of any Bible character you like. Put their hands in plaster of paris so their parents can see how small and cute they were on that date in the future. Just put their name and age under the imprint.

You could sing songs like "Jesus Loves the Little Children of the Word" and "This little light of mine" There are hand motions for those that are pretty simple.

You can trace their hand on a paper heart, write their name on it and a bible verse like Mark 10:14b "Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these"

Bless your heart for being willing to teach the little children. Hope it all goes well. The main thing with little ones is to listen to them and show them the love of Jesus.

I tell you it is a relief to see your question here among all the nonsense that is going on on this site!

for toddlers more of just keeping them satisfied with anything that they can keep their hands and mouths on. nothing more or you will just frustrate yourself.

toddlers speak in tongue because they were just living with god and they forget the secret language when they are born.
