People are getting bigger and it's costing the NHS & the country. Bigger beds, new equipment, breakages & numerous obesity related illnesses. But why should people who take care of themselves pay for those who don't? A common criticism of immigrants/travellers is that they get all the benefits without paying for them. Overweight people require more medical care/special equipment but they don't pay any extra. They also use more fuel when travelling due to the increase in weight which is in turn more damaging to the environment & the road. A persons tax code could be worked out using their weight or BMI This would also act as an incentive to loose weight

We should impose a "Fat-Tax" based on the number of calories in the food. The higher the calories the higher the tax. This way most fruits and veggies would be cheap but gravy would be very expensive. Then finally we would really know how many calories are in a meal at Olive Garden or TGI Fridays....Both of these companies are very secretive about the fat content of their foods. Noone would be able to afford to eat at these restaurants I bet!

Why not just impose a tax on food? Most EU countries pay VAT on top of the price of their food. Result there are no fat people anywhere in the EU except here in the UK. Fat - just get used to it. The British are a fat race and always have been. Fat school kids and teens should be sent to fat-camp where they run all day and get no supper!

When it comes to things like surgery, they do pay more. You pay per sponges, blades, ccs of anesthesia used, positioning aids, etc. Your bill may not be itemized, but it's true. You even pay for each 4x4 dressing and steristrip. Overweight people generally require more of all those things, as well as more time, all of this costs them extra. Trust me, in this case, they are paying for a less than healthy lifestyle.

There are a lot of people who have real medical reasons for being overweight. Should we punish them? By the way, I'm 5'4" and weigh a healthy 120 pounds, so I'm not defending myself.

Yes, we should. I also think we should impose a stupid tax. We could charge whatever we wanted, because stupid people will do whatever they're told. Just think, a stupid tax with a population of 300 million people...goodbye deficit!
