They can take some of them out and have them tested. My dad just had that done 6 days ago and is still in the hospital. He also had a tumor taken out and tested. By testing them, they can determine if they are cancer and what stage. Lymph nodes are all through out the body. That is how cancer is spread. That is when chemo and radiation comes into place. That is what tries to kill the cancer b/c they can not take out all the lymph nodes. With chemo and radiation, there are many side effects. It all depends on the patient and how strong they are. Just keep the spirits up and hope and pray for the best. Good luck. Sam

There are many lymph nodes throughout the body. They can carry cancer cells and seed throughout the body, that is called metastasis. Sometimes the infected lymph nodes can be removed and that is probably the case in your friends situation. He should try to gather as much information as he possibly can to see if this surgery will benefit him or not.
My son also had lymph node involvement with a stage IV abdominal sarcoma. He underwent high dose chemotherapy and hyperthermic chemoperfusion to the abdomen. The chemotherapy worked for him and the cancer disappeared from his lymph nodes. However, since he already had cancer in the lymph nodes it had already sent hundreds of microscopic cells to other parts of his body.
He is still fighting his disease and doing quite well considering how much cancer he had originally.
Good luck to your friend.

I'm sorry about your friend. There are lymph glands in different spots on the body, your neck, armpits and groin area are a few. The reason they want to take out those lymph nodes is because they are the closest ones to the testes. If the cancer spreads to the lymph glands, it will course through his whole body and that will be it in a very short amount of time. they are trying to prolong his life in case they have not been successful at removing all of it. Good luck and pray for him.

The lymph glands are a "cleaner" organ of the body. They filled up with cancer, they can be removed. They actually are one of the only glands that grow back. When the body is fighting an attack of a disease of any kind it's the lymph system that does the fighting so the lymph nodes get filled up.

Cancer, when not diagnosed early, can spread. Unfortunately "removing" lymph nodes is difficult, but cancer spreads easily through the lymphatic system. They will only remove nodes that they discover to be cancerous. He will still need either Chemo or Radiation, or a combo of both after the lymph nodes are removed. You will find that most of the time in treatments is spent sitting and WAITING.. the waiting is the worst part. It is a fact that cancer is sometimes harder on family and friends because we do not feel in control. I wish all of my very best to to, and of course to your friend.

sometimes lymph nodes is used to determine the stage of cancer and so is the basis of treatment. taking few lymph nodes will not produce any long term side effects.

Hi Chuck
Here are some steps for the cancer, if he wants to treat it differently. Ask the question at curezone.com and you'll get people who have gone through the same process and chose different options and came out way ahead.
Quick Action Plan for Prostate Cancer
1. Since prostate cancer is easier to prevent rather than treat, your most important choice is that of prevention.
2. Undergo prostate screening annually from the age of 50 on, or younger if you have a family history of prostate cancer. Utilize both conventional and non conventional styles of testing procedures.
3. If family history indicates prostate cancer, or if you are faced with an autoimmune disease, take extra precaution with the following suggestions, and look carefully into the subject of Vasectomy, as this procedure could aggravate your already higher risk for prostate cancer.
4. Engage in life supporting and anti-stress solutions to relieve tightness surrounding the prostate gland, such as yoga, massage and acupuncture. Avoid tight underclothing and pants. Wear your belt buckle off to the side, and avoid nickel.
5. Engage in an enjoyable exercise routine that you do 3-5 days per week. Experiment with Yoga, Qi Gong or Tai Chi. Movement that strengthens and relaxes the body, rather than constricts, is an essential element to maintaining prostate health.
6. Make positive diet changes, eliminating conventional, processed and fast foods, toxic fats and oils, and inorganic diary and protein sources. Eat organic whenever possible. Start eating a whole foods diet, eating an abundant selection of raw and lightly steamed vegetables, raw fruits and clean protein sources, along with fresh juices, whole grains, and soaked nuts and seeds.
7. Use purified water both internally and when bathing, and drink at least ½ your weight in ounces of quality water daily.
8. Rather than coffee, choose green tea containing 710 ECGC, and other non-caffeinated herb teas as a powerful anti-oxidant drink. Sip throughout the day. To read more visit: www.greenteahaus.com
9. Consider a Colon Cleanse; read through the excellent version found under Detoxification on the Natural Cures web site.
10. Start on a quality supplement and herb program as suggested above, and preferably, personalized by a qualified alternative therapist. Also, try Flower Essences and/or Aromatherapy.
11. Engage in alternative therapies, such as Energy Medicine, Acupuncture, Homeopathy, and bodywork. Additionally, find a qualified alternative practitioner such as a Naturopathic or Osteopathic Doctor to support every aspect of your newfound commitment to health and healing.
Best of health to both of you
Cheers

I would assume that they want to remove his lymph nodes b/c if cancer gets into the lymph nodes, it's pretty much all downhill from there...your lymph nodes are all over your body. (I don't think they'd remove all of them...I don't know; I'm not a doctor.) It depends on what kind of cancer he has. I'm really sorry to hear that...I hope he gets better.
