hmmmm deep.......... Grace is the essence, eternal life the trapping. Could spirtuality be awareness of self and a higher being or power?

Until recent times, no one thought of "spirituality" outside of the context of religion. It wasn't until the new age and "seeker" movements that spirituality has come to mean something in contrast to religion, rather than being a part of it. In the modern connotation, religion means "organized religion," and spirituality means something like "an individual's path to revelation/god/etc."

So, I'd say they have become two separate things altogether.

The religious mind, the spiritual aspirations that awaken in us to know what is true, is central to us. Religion is the attempt, by those that follow one who has something compelling to say, to organize around that one. They attempt to organize the truth, a contradiction in terms. Sadly, this often leads to a complete distortion of the "founders" meaning. Then, the further away in time you get, this organization becomes powerful, wealthy, and so filled with its own agenda, that the founder would never have anything to do with it. The tragedy in the middle east alone is a good example of this.

no, you can choose to be what ever you want and practice it or not where you want. it is a matter of preference. do you believe what you are told and feel comfortable in the confines of a church/temple (etc.)or do you take that religion and tweak it to represent you and your personal spirituality ? it is a choice that only you can make, some would have you believe that you are a traitor to your faith if you are not devout and conform to being told how and what to believe - instead of searching within yourself for answers.

As I like to say,

"Religion costs money, but beliefs are free"

Personally, I agree with you. Religion is taking a group of people with similar beliefs and setting up rules, structure, rituals, etc.

I don't approve.

Yes to a small degree, but man's mind will not rest untill every mystery is cleared up.

In 2 Timothy read the following and see if you see yourself there.

Chapter 3
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was.

13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

THERE IS HOPE FOR EVERYONE INCLUDING YOU

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10
