Can one be labeled for things like having sex on the beach or doing something scandalous at Mardi Gras or something? I'm just curious, i had sex on a remote beach recently and wondered that if I had been caught, could i have that mark on me for the rest of my life?

It depends on your state. In some states, people are placed on Megan's Llist for such things as peeing in an alley or taking their children from the custodial parent or serving beer to a minor or prostitution. In other states, they're a lot more pickier.

The states have greatly expanded the type of offense which can land one on the registry because they get more money from the feds for doing so. I forget the name of the legislative act, but it also requires states to consider at least one new sex offender law each year. That way, it can stay in the public eye.

So for those who think Megan's List is just for rapists and child molesters, think again! In California, there are 107 separate offenses that can get one on the list. Some are beyond stupid, since they are nowhere near the danger that the public thinks. Then there are the true sexual predators. Try finding those when they're mixed up with everyone else!

I am not sure if you having consensual sex with someone of age on a beach would get you labeled as a sex offender. But if you were to do it in a very public place, you could be considered a deviant.

I am not sure you would end up on the Megan's law site for it all.

Just do not do that or at least do not do anything to get caught. It is easier to live life without that stigma following you.

There are people on the sex offender list that clearly should not be. It was intended for the monitoring of dangerous sexual predators.

During a class on sexual abuse, it was noted that males that were of age, late teens, early twenties, were often convicted of
"sex" offenses with girls in their mid teens. This means that young men who were doing nothing more than dating now have a record for the rest of their life. This of course puts them at a severe disadvantage when it comes to employment or even housing.

I don't know what the solution is to dangerous sexual predators. I do know to find someone guilty of something they did not do is unconscionable.

Peace.

Believe it or not I know a man that has to register as a sex offender because he took a leak behind a dumpster in an alley!
there are different levels of sex offenders getting caught having sex would probably made you a level 2
my friend that took a leak is a level 1 but he still has to register as a sex offender
a level 3 offender is a rapist or child molester.
so yes....I would be careful where i was having sex.

No way!!

I know somebody that got a sexual misconduct charge put on him & what he did was, Piss on an ATM real late at night. He was drunk at the time. The only way they knew about this was he was on camera. Nobody else saw him do it.
If a minor saw you I would say yes you could have bee labeled a sexual offender.

yes you could have been. People on the registry are on there for life for offenses ranging from having sex with minors, adults even spouses (if against there will) having sex in public (consensual) and peeing outside.

To be labeled a "sex offender" you need to be convicted of crime related to sexual behavior.

No, the most you would have gotten, depending on your location, is a ticket for indecent conduct or indecent exposure.
A sex offender is one who has committed statutory rape, sexual assault, or child molestation.
