AOL is great for kids. It let me set the Parent Controls so that everytime my daughter was online it would keep a record of every site she went to... it blocked certain sites that she may venture to. I didn't let her start getting online until she was 10 and that's because she was going to be going online at school.

the best thing would be to have your child tell you all the places he visits and to get one of those programs that let you see where they are surfing.at this age they don't mind the limits.but in a few more years...it will be a different story, there are filters to stop pop ups but just keeping the computer in the family room will do more than anything else.

I know my computer already had something on it, but when I activated it, it was crazy. It asked my permission for everything, even to go onto my yahoo because it might have an article about breast cancer. I know there are programs out there, see if you can find one that will only let him go onto sites you've already approved. Kind of like he has his own "favorites" folder and if he tries to go into anything else, the program will not let him unless you type in your password saying that it's okay.

I don't have any protection on my computer, although, when my 7 year old son goes on my computer, I sit with him to observe. If I am busy at that moment, he can not go on. I have tried downloadable programs and they caused problems with other programs I have running on my system.

there are programs you can purchase online but the best place i have found is www.protectkids.com and www.surfnetkids.com
but please be very careful with a 7 year old because even on some legitimate sites people sneak sorry links or hidden links that cause kids to innocently open inappropriate pages
good luck

why should your 7 year old need to be online? and if he does only let him on when you are in the room. I have 2 boys and they are not allowed on any site that has chat and never online unless a adult is in the same room

i have my computer in a high traffic area, the kitchen, and the monitor is turned so that if i'm in the living room i can still see what's on the screen. i type in the site that my daughter wants to go on and, if there are links on it, she asks me before clicking on them so that i can check what they are first. i think it's fine for a 7 yr old to be online, you just have to be vigilant about their usage.

Keep him OFF of the internet, he is only 7 years old there should be no reason for him to be on it.

Most, if not all responsible ISP's offer protection from things like chatrooms and pornography. Check the link for more.
