This is normal, don't worry. The male is seeking her attention, and may be interested in mating. However, the female will not have anything to do with that, because she has to be ready, and there has to be a safe place for her to nest. Without a breeding box, she will not mate.
I have 13 budgies (keets) and have spent years studying their behavior...trust me, this is normal, and hardly even qualifies as a fight.
Just give them lots of toys and change them out regularly so they have enough to keep them busy.
Molting can cause them to be more sensitive, but you will see this behavior with a male and female, anyway, on a normal basis.

Parakeets are a particularly Playful species of bird. They are always inquizitive yet friendly. There are a few reasons that they may be fighting. One of the reasons might be that they are both of the same sex eg. 2 females. Although most parakeets of the same sex tend to get along for a while, as they get older and reach sexual maturity they will start competing in an act of dominence to see who is the more dominant of them both. Once this is determined the less dominant one will back off and not look for any arguements what so ever with the other! Or reason no. 2 is: They might be possesive over the owner and tend to fight in a jelouse way. Especially when there is food involved! If you take your birds out alot, make sure that u show them both the same amount of affection. If they do start to argue over something, a good way to stop them from hurting each other is to blow inbetween them both. Birds hate this and will soon back off from each other and calm down! Hope it helps

I have a male & female budgies. I had the male 1st. When I brought the female home, I kept her in a seperate cage beside him til they got use to one another(or so I thought). Once I put them togather, he became too friendly & she held her space...snapping at him, raising cane etc... Now I have her cage facing his with both doors open so they can "visit" each other or stay apart when they feel the need! Each have their own seed, water, & toys which they share. Working out just fine now!

They are probably just jealous of eachother, or their cage is too small for the both of them, or you don't feed them enough and they are both trying to get rid of the other bird. There are a variety of answers to why they are fighting eachother, especially if they are both male.
