Here is the "serious" answer though some above are funny: Mexican beer is not made the same way we make beer here whre hops is the main ingredient to flavor the beer, in Mexico the guava plant is used and the lime (not lemon) is used to enhance the particular flavoring that guava gives the beer. The best practice is to remove it when it is served, squeeze the juice of the wedge into the bottle and then put it back in the neck for more flavoring.

First of all, if they serve it with a lemon, send it back. It should be a lime. Secondly, it's a bit of a mystery how a wedge of lime became standard equipment with Mexican beer. I've read that it's a Mexican tradition originating in the need to clean dust off - or keep flies out - of the mouth of the can or in this case a bottle. I've also read that it started as a marketing gimmick, and only tourists in Mexico drink their beer with lime.

Card-carrying Beer Snobs will tell you the lime is necessary to give the beer some flavor. Personally, I drink it with lime - probably because that's how I learned to like it, and because its lighter flavor pairs nicely with the fresh acidity of the citrus. But it doesn't need it.

Good luck!

most people push the lemon wedge down as far as their finger will go then tip the bottle over so the beer will push the wedge out of the neck into the bottle. its helps enhance the taste. if you don't like it just ask the bartender to hold on the lemon. alot of people have lime instead

I've never encountered a lemon in my corona but there is always a lime...it makes the beer taste better, you should add a dash of salt also. You usually push it down into the bottle and in the process the lime juice gets squeezed out and absorbed into your beer. You can always order it with out the piece or you can just remove it and leave it on a napkin if you don't want it in your beer.

They must have run out of limes. Fold the lime in half so the pointed ends are in the bottle and press with your thumb as you tip the bottle slowly upside down. This send the lime juice throughout the bottle. Get a sip quickly because the beer will fizz up
--Taught to me by a Brazilian during the 1998 World Cup. I've been using the method ever since.

There are better Mexican beers. Try Negro Modelo or Pacifico.

The lemon enhances the flavor of the beer. If you are not served the beer with a glass, I'd push it in the bottle. If given a glass, squeeze the lemon so juice goes into the glass, carefully covering it so you don't get anyone in the eye. Enjoy.

Beats having a wedge of garlic. I always ask the waitress to not put the lemon in the bottle. Serves no purpose for me. Most people I've watched push it down into the bottle.

The lemon wedge is there because corona is such a vile excuse for beer that you need the lemon wedge to choke it down. most people will squeeze it into the bottle, but it's really up to you. I don't think there is any "right" thing to do with it.

Its actually a lime, the acid of the lime adds a wonderful sweet and sour flavor to the beer. Each time you take a swig, you'll taste the light, carribbean effervecense of the citrusy lime.

well i like to either push into the beer and let it marinate or just keep near the neck and drink the beer so that it flows thru the lemon or lime...lime is actually better.
