It's there to kill any remaining bacteria that got through the bottling process.

First of all, if they serve it with a lemon, send it back. It should be a lime. Secondly, it's a bit of a mystery how a wedge of lime became standard equipment with Mexican beer. I've read that it's a Mexican tradition originating in the need to clean dust off - or keep flies out - of the mouth of the can or in this case a bottle. I've also read that it started as a marketing gimmick, and only tourists in Mexico drink their beer with lime. Card-carrying Beer Snobs will tell you the lime is necessary to give the beer some flavor. Personally, I drink it with lime - probably because that's how I learned to like it, and because its lighter flavor pairs nicely with the fresh acidity of the citrus. But it doesn't need it. Good luck!

well the real reason there is a lemon or a lime served in the moutha a corona bottle is because in Mexico there are so many flies and bees, it is a cap to keep the bugs out of the beer, and of course someone didnt know that and they squeezed the lime in the beer and a trend started

Hi again:

The mexican beer making process is different to ours.

The lime (lemon) makes a better tasting cocktail than beer on its own.

You should squeeze it into the beer and then pop it back into the neck.

I just shove it in the bottle as I like to see the beer fizz.

In reality it is part of the fun of drinking Mexican beer.

Suggestion: Try Dos XX or Sol - both are better than Corona

ok here is what you do. take the lemon and or lime out of the corona. you keep it for future use. then you get yourself a dos equis beer. it is from mexico also and the flavor is much better. then you give the corona to someone you just met and walk away. if they don't like it then who cares. if they do like it you can suggest they try what you are having. congradulations you just made a new friend.

The lime or lemon was originally used to prevent flies from getting into the bottle. They have that problem in Mexico. From there, it became a marketing ploy. The lime should be pushed into the bottle once you begin to drink it. I actually like it better without the friggin lime.

It should be a lime and you should push it into the neck of the bottle---put your thumb on the opening of the bottle while turning the bottle upside down to submerge the lime into the beer. It is to maximize flavor!

Its not to squeeze or push or suck. Its to clean the rim of the bottle with the lemon. It's to avoid getting Montezumas revenge from the water that cleans the bottles in their bottling plants.

I squeeze the lemon into the corona (makes it taste better) and then push the rest of the lemon in.
