I went to a pet store last night to buy a toy for my 6 month old and the clerk talked me into buying a different brand of food for her. Well I knew full well that the brand I already use is just fine and healthy and a very good brand but stupid me I let her talk me into it..thinking mabey it might be better. Well my poor kitty just pucked!! All her food she just ate came right up.It makes me mad when I let people talk me into thinks like that..Purina Kitten Chow is the brand my kitten eats and shes happy and healthy(not right at the moment) Blue Seal was the brand I bought and it made her sick..I'm not saying its not a good brand but its not the brand for my Sofee..Anyone out there as gullible or easy to pursuade as me?

She probably puked because you suddenly changed her diet and she was used to the Purina you have been feeding her. The new stuff may be richer. IF you decide to change her diet you should always do it GRADUALLY. In this case, I guess you might want to take the new food back and ask for a refund, since they talked you into it.

Take it back and ask for a refund. If they refuse...well, there's just one more reason why brands like Science Diet and Iam's are better. You'd get a refund on an open bag, no problem.

Most of those people (pet store clerks) barely have a high school education....let alone applicable knowledge of animal nutritional physiology and biochemistry....and are specifically trained to sell what makes the pet store the highest profit margin. They may not know that that's WHY they're trained the way they are, but it IS why. (I know this from talking with many pet store managers.) They can't possibly have enough knowledge to know which food is best for each pet's situation....trust me.

Before someone jumps in and says veterinarians do the same thing.....um, no....we don't. We don't just sell the food we happen to have on the shelf. We don't carry crappy food that has high profit margins. We choose to CARRY the food we do only because we feel it is the best for most of our patients, and it helps us to treat and prevent many medical disorders caused by poor nutrition. We do that despite the fact that it has a very low profit margin compared to "pet store" brands....especially considering the very valuable square footage that food takes up in a medical facility, which costs a WHOLE LOT more than the same square footage in a pet store. Our overall profit levels would be higher if we didn't HAVE TO carry food at all, in fact.

To be totally fair and honest, however.....ANY food will make your cat vomit if you make a sudden change. Even going from the worst food in the world to the best, the change should be made gradually over a period of 5-10 days. (Imagine eating plain chicken and rice for months on end....then going out to eat at Taco Bell one night. Not necessarily picking on Taco Bell...it's just the first thing that popped into my head, lol.) This is something a veterinary staff member would have made sure you knew in advance.

Purina kitten chow is not the 'best' out there, imo (there are several brands better, but I don't consider Blue Seal to be one of them)....but feeding Purina kitten chow is "okay." It's like the difference between driving a Ford/Chevy vs. a BMW/Mercedes. Just stay away from the el cheapo foods like Special Kitty, etc.

Tell Sofee to hang in there! (I have a Sophie.)

she was just trying to help you make a good choice in cat food. It has better ingredients, and you supposed to mix the old food with the new so their body's can adjust.
But you went in for a TOY! that's why I try not to talk to people that are selling stuff cause if I don't, I'll walk out with stuff I don't need.
Sales people ask questions to see if you need stuff that you don't have, that they sell.(well that's people on commission, people like me are on an hourly rate don't care if you buy extra, but do make suggestion that are in YOUR best interest) You can either not give to much away so you don't get talked into something you don't need/want, or just politely say 'well maybe another day'

Yup clerks are a pain when they talk you into stuff.
If your cat has only ever had one type of food then she may of reacted to sudden change in her diet. Try mixing a little of the new brand in with her old food, and gradually increase the percentage of new food over several days. This should give her a chance to adjust to the new brand of food. My vet advised me to get my cat used to different types of food, as cats get board with the same food, and love a change every now and then.

Sorry to hear about your poor kitty. =(

We have always bought our cats the same brand of cat food (Science Diet) because it was reccomended to us by a vet. This brand is only sold at vets.

Every once in a while we will have to go to the grocery store to buy some cat food, because often we will run out of cat food, and the vet's office would be closed.

I've found that the cats seem to love trying new food. Luckily, we've haven't had a cat vomit due to cat food, although I must admit, whenever I give my cats a kitty treat, they almost always barf it up. =(

Yes..and most of the time they don't know what they're talking about.

If I were you and if you still have the receipt take the cat food back and tell them it made your cat sick. And i would talk to the manager for the refund not the clerk.

Good Luck

I hate those people at the pet stores. They make you feel guilty for feeding your animal this obviously putrid crap made from animal parts and left overs , or something along that line. and you hate to be rude by just ignoring them or walking away but what are we poor pet owners to do when are pets are fine with what we feed them already. I avoid them at all costs to say the least.

it also may be that your kitty isnt used to that kind of cat food. they will get sick if you change there food. if you wanted to change it then you should have mixed it in then gragually used just the new brand.

You don't have a pet problem, you have a people-pleasing problem.
