Hi Hot Ironry

Here are some remedies to use.

Cause
1.Diarrhea is the most severe form of constipation caused by a complete blockage in the lower intestine. Liquids only will come through while solids are retained. The body must be cleansed as quickly as possible or diarrhea will go into dysentery.

2.Diarrhea has a number of causes: too much fruit, digestive upset, stressful emotion. It may be the body ridding itself of toxins. It is the most severe form of constipation and should be dealt with immediately.

3.Caffeine intoxication, or caffeinism, has symptoms which include among others diarrhea.

Herbal Aids
1.Rice Water: Rice water will check the diarrhea as will peach leaves, raspberry leaves, and sunflower leaves.

2.Peach Leaf Tea or Ripe Peaches: The use of peach leaf tea or ripe peaches themselves will often stop common diarrhea. Sunflower leaf tea is one of the most potent but must be used in very small amounts.

3.Plantain: Use a strong tea (steep one ounce of the granulated herb for twenty to thirty minutes in one pint water), inject one tablespoonful three of four times daily (or more frequently in bad cases), and especially after each bowel movement.

4.See formula for diarrhea using plantain, silver week and knotgrass.

5.See formula for diarrhea using bayberry, African ginger and pinus.

6.See formula for diarrhea using white oak, raspberry and cinnamon.

7.Infant Syrup for Diarrhea: See formula using bistort, marshmallow, cloves, angelica and ginger.

8.Witch Hazel: Give a rectal injection of the fluid extract (distilled aqueous extract) or decoction; take internally.

9.Acute Diarrhea: Give the syrup of Turkey rhubarb according to the dosage specified. See formula for syrup of Turkey rhubarb using turkey rhubarb, sugar and glycerine.

10. Mucilage of Comfrey: Diarrhea, dysentery, and cough. Give the mucilage sweetened with honey in teaspoonful doses frequently (it strengthens, nourishes, soothes and heals). See formula doe mucilage using comfrey root, water, honey and glycerine.

11.Mullein: for diarrhea, dysentery, and bleeding of the bowels. Boil 1 ounce of mullein in 1 pint of milk for a few minutes, strain and give in 1/2 cupful doses after each bowel evacuation (and if you don't have a scale or the time to calculate the equivalent measure, just grab some and go to work).

12.Wild and Domestic Sunflower Leaf: An excellent and easy-to-find herb for diarrhea is the common wild and domestic sunflower leaf. Make up a tea of this, and start giving a teaspoon of the tea at a time. Increase the amount gradually if needed, but not too fast, as it will cause constipation if too much is taken. This is children dosages.

13Oak Bark Tea: A real life saver is a rectal injection of oak bark tea, also drinking this same type of tea. This works in the most severe cases. We must always go back to the cause, after relieving the effect, by checking the diet.

14.Serious Diarrhea in Children: Should the diarrhea be a more serious nature, keep the child on nothing but teas for six, twelve or twenty-four hours or more, depending on the age of the child. The following herbs are suitable for this purpose: red raspberry, yarrow, oak bark, bayberry bark, sage (garden), mullein, marshmallow, nettle, slippery elm, strawberry leaves, ginger, plantain.

15.Cleansing the Bowels.

16.Schizophrenia in Children is often characterized by diarrhea. See Dr. Christopher's answer to this in his newsletter.

17.Juices for Diarrhea: Carrot, cranberry.

The safest bet is to eat a lot cheese. It will firm up your stool without keeping toxins from exiting your system in case the diarrhea is due to some sort of virus.

If you are certain that your diarrhea is not caused by a virus, then you can take Immodium AD. However, if you have a virus and take Immodium AD, you could end up with terrible stomach cramps because you would be blocking the bad stuff in.

WHOA THE PERSON ABOVE IS WAY WRONG, WAY WRONG!

Most of diarrhea is not caused by what you eat but infection. For immunocompetent people it will run its own course, primarily you just want to stay hydrated. Though immodium may offer symptomatic relief its definitely the wrong thing to do with infectious diarrhea (it will trap the bacteria in).

If symptoms cause you to become dehydrated to the point of being lightheaded or passing out go to the ER for IV hydration.

If it turns bloody go to the ER.

If symptoms persist beyond 4 days see your doctor as you may have a parasitic infection.

Other causes for persistant or intermittent diarrhea are gall bladder disease, Chrohn's disease, Celiac sprue, Ulcerative colitis... again things to be examined if symptoms persist week in and week out.

go on a diet that binds the stomach. We use this at my job(nursing home) on resident's that have diahrea. all of what i am telling you is called a bratt diet. you need to eat this for breakfast, lunch and dinner untill your bowel solidifies.
bananna, cream of rice cereal, toast that is dry no butter or jelly, tea . you can have sugar and a little milk but no more than 4ounces each meal. Hope you feel better.

if you suspect food poisoning or gastro infection then it is better to let it run its course in the first day to let your body rid itself of toxins and germs. you don't want to plug them in there. in the meantime, drink Gatorade so you don't get dehydrated. you can eat from the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) and get lots of rest. if the diarrhea keeps on going, you can take Immodium, the pills work better than the liquid. see a dr. if it goes longer than 3 days or if you start getting dehydrated, you may need to get an IV.
